DIY Lightstand Case?

[nklaeser]

I am looking for a DIY case to carrying light stands onto location? I was thinking maybe some sort of fishing or gun case from Cabelas? Any recommendations?

This is cheap and really well made:

I've had it for more than 2 years and the thing is a workhorse.

What do you need DIY for? I use these Petrol Cases, one for c-stands, one for light stands. Work great, fit in the car with no problem, take up as little room as possible yet still protects the stands (interal velcro straps keep the stands secured), with wheels to boot. What's not to like?

I lucked into two hard-sided, wheeled golf club travel cases at a garage sale. $7/each. They hold all of my lights stands, tripod, and grip arms. Retail these are pretty spendy, but you can find them at thrift stores and flea markets. These are mine: http://www.skbcases.com/sports/sku.php?cat=16&pid=74
