DIY lights with these bulbs? 2X 35W HID Xenon

yep, last year i tried to build a portable lighting with such HID.
The problem is they get awfully hot, and cannot be switched on/off very fast (warming/cooling time).
if you can afford the heavy 12V lead acid battery on a trolley, it could be nice.
if you have main power available , there are other cheap solution (like eco bulbs) and if you need real
portability, led is better. Now i got all of them, i can choose, but frankly the HID never get out of the drawer.
So i would say it can make great lighting but only in very particular situation.
Just make sure you choose a low temp color, since the HID usually tends to be very blue.
(the one you show in the pic are 6000k, it is a bit high already, but it can go as high as 10.000, with violet light)
Don't forget to add the ballast to price of bulbs. usually a full kit (2 ballasts and 2 bulbs) cost about $60.

You may also have problems with consistent color temperatures and flicker. From what I've seen they tend to float in color temp. If I really wanted a cheap HID/HMI type light I personally would get the CDM fixtures that I saw Coollights has.

Alzo's ballast/bulb combo is pretty cool... I have a 6" fresnel already modded for one, it's on my project list. About $170 though.
