DIY IndieSlider...

Hey JoeJITSU-
Although we all appreciate your never-ending enthusiasm for your Korean Konova slider, this is a DIY thread.
DIY stands for “Do- It-Yourself”. I’m not seeing the DIY part of your posts?

If you’d like to take the time to actually do the research, fine the parts, list the tools and complete build instructions…THEN it’s a DIY project.
I struggle to understand why you keep listing a $310.00 slider here claiming it’s SO much better then the igus $160.00 DIY project?

Let me help you out and get you started in the right direction….
I contacted the linear motion company in China who manufactures the rail and carriage Konova uses about 2 years ago…no US distributors at that time.
Check it out for yourself: http://www.yi-tong.com/en/IDS%20speed%20guide%20system.htm

Now, do your homework and tell us all how to build this ‘incredible’ slider (which is just a DP Slider….Redi-Rail, available from PBC) at a DIY price.

My goal in starting this thread was to find the cheapest way for us indie/budget filmmakers to build a professional slider at a real-world price.
Please join the club and tell us how to SAVE our small budgets & build a pro slider of our own.

I patiently await your revolutionary DIY slider instructions!

Best,
-Zaza

hello i would like to buy the carriage and the double rail from the igus website (ws-16-60 and WW-16-60-10) but the form says

"These offers are intended only for business persons / resellers."
can i proceed also if i am just a private person and not a reseller?

^ you might want to check with igus... have you tried igus in Germany? I don't know if igus US sells out of the country.

i checked all the Igus european and USA websites and all sell only to resellers.

I posted anyway the order, now i wait what they reply to my email.

there is any alternative product/shop (rail+carriage) that can be bought in the EU?

In France, I have bought directly to Igus at Fresnes without problem, and I'm not a reseller!
so you didn't buy from the website but in the local igus at Fresnes?
i live in italy and Igus is located 500km far from where i live (Rome)..

Igus will sell directly to a consumer. You can also get it through a distributor (but it might cost a bit more).

believe it or not, i got all the holes drill 5/8 and i couldn't mount the
DryLin® W1040-A Linear Motion System for Camera Sliders - compact, low-cost ( i bought this one it is light)

now i went to a metal shop to ask them if they could make me a 5/8 female bottom and femal head 5/8 for $20 for three
because i can't just mount it to the tripod
God it is so frustrurating because the 5/8 on the tripod is too short what do you do with it?

Can you post a few pictures... I'm not understanding the problem. Does your tripod have a 5/8" bolt as a head mount?

No, I just phoned them and they sent me the slider.
Igus Italy phoned me and they said they need a iva position to sell it, they don't sell to private persons. If i want to buy from them i must provide a IVA (VAT) account. They are very strictly in following their rules i see. :(
In the meanwhile I sent an email to a local distributor but i did not receive any reply.

Now i checked the Igus France website and, if i am not wrong, i can understand that they sell to everyone and not only to resellers

this is the advice when i go to checkout

Passer à la saisie de l'adresse
Tous les prix indiqués sont des prix en € HT au taux en vigueur et frais d'expédition en sus. Pour tout retour de marchandise veuillez prendre contact avec le bureau du pays concerné.
google translation: All prices shown are prices in € VAT at the prevailing rate and shipping charges free. For any return please get in touch with the office of the country concerned.

while the italian IGUS website report the same advice that we may read in the UK and USA IGUS website:

These offers are intended only for business persons / resellers. All prices quoted are net prices. The prices do not include legally stipulated value-added tax or shipping costs. Buyer’s declaration of intent cannot be cancelled and goods cannot be returned.
so i made another attempt, i placed an order in the france website, and i hope they don't forward my request to the italian site.

So, I have a nice video tripod with 75mm ball leveler on which my slider sits, but don't yet have a good solution for on top of the slider, for mounting the camera to the carriage.

I have considered a cheap non-ball levelled video head like the Weifeng 717 or even the Manfrotto 501 or something like that.

But I also started to consider something like the trigger clutch ball heads for stills cameras, as it has 3x axes, which could be cool for jib-like effects (ie push-ins with a rise or drop) but I wouldn't be able to pan with the slide with such a head.

So basically:

1. Weifeng video head.

+ Can pan as you slide (perhaps??)
- No side tilt to enable certain angles

2. Clutch-handle type ball head.

+ Fast angle setting for any angle
- No panning possibility

What do you people suggest? Oh it's for a GH1 and for mostly Cinematic use (push-ins and tracking of actors)

Have you considered the Manfrotto 701HDV? Nice head for that camera & inexpensive...
