DIY IndieSlider...

i want to order this but it's so confusing when i goes to igus website i don't know wat to order. and to ZAZA if i make one of this and can upgrade to the roller bearing later on??? i want to have the roller bearing please let me know

Sam...first, I always recommend calling the order in (see first post for phone number), the sales reps know ALL about the ZazaSlider.

I still wouldn't get too excited about the hybrid bearings yet, they are really designed for a hanging load, like a heavy door that slides open (see past posts). I have some coming for testing and will let everyone know the results. Another thing is that they are ONLY available for the 10mm rail right now.

I've condensed all the information on building a ZazaSlider and put up on the official www.zazaslider.com web site. I will be adding information everyday until there's one good place for all the correct information. Instructions, Videos, PDF's for download...it will all be there!

Also... I am now shipping the ZazaSlider Feet! The store is open. In the next couple weeks I will be offering complete Zazasliders as well as just rail and carriage packages (pre-drilled & tapped) for those who don't want to bother or aren't the DIY type!

Here are a couple of shots I thought you all might enjoy seeing. It is the Igus facility in East Providence, RI. The location is only 5 minutes from my studio.

Good morning Joe,

I just popped a 5/16" drill into the hole and you are correctl, it fits exactly.
Good to know :-)

Now to perhaps get those ends tapped today.

Dave.

The holes in the end of the rail are 5/16"...that's the exact size hole you would drill to tap a 3/8"-16 thread. (Check to see if the 5/16" bit slides in the hole.)

I didn't talk to any of the associates, but I was in the aisle with all those little drawers.... it always amazed me the stuff they have available that you don't even realize existed, so many little things, some beautiful stuff, that you just want to have and don't have a clue what they are used for :-)

late this week I'll go into another one and see if I can find it, I searched every drawer they had and couldn't find them.

Take it slow & easy and you'll be fine.

Did you ask one of the helpful associates at Home Depot? They are in the fastner aisle in the slide-out drawers, not hanging with all the other stuff.
Ask, I've found them in a few different Home Depot's. You could have tem look up the UPC.

hey Lucas, thank you for the information.

Go to HOME DEPOT and gat a 3/8 1" long hax bolt, three 3/8 washers and 1 3/8 cut pressure washer. Take bolt, put in 1 washer, place cut pressure washer on top, then 2 more washers on top of the pressure washer. Screw bolt wit washers through bottom of carriage and tighten with a wrench. Will be super solid. the bolt and washers are 18 cents each at home depot

David-
Since I can't PM you (?)...could I please ask you to PM me or contact me at zaza@zazaslider.com for some of this details you might need help with? It's just that this thread is getting REALLY long and difficult for people to navigate.

oops, sorry I'll stop asking questions Joe.

Nope... that's not what I'm saying...ask away & I'm always glad to help (everyone knows that)!

Just PM me, as most of this has been covered many times over the last 2 years.

...and when your done...post pictures and footy!!

O.K. folks... the doors are open! First sales are out the door and on their way to new homes scattered across the country.
I just want to thank everyone in this community for the support and encourgement regarding the ZazaSlider Experience... you people are the BEST!

Please check out the site (click the banner below), There you'll find instructions on how to build your own slider, watch slider videos from some
great cinematographers, view different uses in the picture gallery, download a PDF (working on a few more now) or just shop!

I have lots of goodies in the works...so don't be strangers.

Again... Thank You!

just took a look at your site, the legs are pretty cool. have you thought about putting some kind of non sliding non marking rubber on the bottom of the feet so it doesn't mark up or scratch table tops, maybe they can also double as padded hand grips, forgive me if this idea has already been posted, with 168 pages one never knows.

also I have some slider footage from a ZazaSlider if you'd like it for your site, the DP was Huy Vu and the shots are beautiful

These babies are milled so smooth, they wouldn't mark any surface! But, yes, I was toying with 'Plastic Dip", it really doesn't look that great.

..and again, these are really comfortable in the hand too...that said, a pair of foam hand grips could easily be slid right over the handle/leg. (waiting for a pair to try)

New Hybrid Bearings

New Hybrid Bearings

I got the hybrid bearings today...and well, on a quick pass...not so much.
First, I put them on a 700mm length of 10-40mm rail I have that is my 'shooter' shoulder mount version. The bearings are only available for the 10mm rail at this time; I'm told they will be making them for the 16mm rail by this summer. They do not fit on the standard carriage but you can still line-up one of the holes.

First I tried adding just one hybrid to the three standard bearings...and there really wasn't any great change, just a little more 'play' in the carriage (which was expected). I then replaced all the others so I was using only hybrid bearings all around. After a bit of tweaking to get a reasonable slide, I discovered these are not as smooth as the standard Drylin bearing. It was as I suspected, these bearings are really designed for heavy hanging loads that put the weight down on the roller and the Drylin bearing is more for alignment...like a heavy, sliding door. In that application, where the weight is down on that roller...sweet!

These didn't slide as smooth as the regular Drylin bearings, had more 'play' and make a bit of noise. I also felt what seemed like an imperfection in the roller that made it feel lopsided, again, not good for a nice smooth slide.

I'm going to test some more and try different combinations, but I really don't see any advantage to these hybrid bearings for a slider so far.

Standby for more soon....

I told you so :D

My first slider had roller bearings and I´m glad I got rid of them.

Compared with those racy rollers, the Igus lining is like having a fluid head.

Soft controlled start/stop and a nice resistance.

You're right....I knew it too...you could tell right from the specs and drawings of the hybrid. The 'wheel' (for our uses) rides on the outside edge of the rail and effectively does nothing to help the slide.

Still... for everyone's benefit....I'm going to keep experimenting.

I found this info today, interesting

check that : http://itway.pl/products/
they sell a finished product witch look pretty cool and smooth for 289 USD.

cool!??
not really...because they buy the base off their sliders from this company : http://www.liniowe.com/index.php?opt...&id=2&Itemid=2 for around 50€ without shipping!! just need to diy a little after, very easily.

look at the serie TS, seems to be a good deal, videos are smooth and it looks pretty solid and professional.

it seems that orders can be done from here : http://allegro.pl/item858163878_prow...e_het_cnc.html
but i don't know if they ship internationally, my polish is...pretty bad.

if somebody speaks / reads polish, he could get more infos from them.
i don't send yet an email to us.

tell me guys what you think about that.

I think there are about a million different linear motion companies out there, but I'd like to keep this thread based on the igus product... Feel free to start another thread anytime.
I also think this was lifted word-for-word off the HV20 forum: http://www.hv20.com/showthread.php?t=33842

Oh.. and it looks like the ZazaSlider feet could easily work on that slider too.
Cheers!

I dunno, I think I would stick with the ZaZa system as it is proven, works smoothly and you can't beat the tech support. I think any replacement parts would be easier to obtain also. Just my 2 cents.
