can't wait to get mine, I'll have the same setup.

How well does it perform with the camera sitting that high? is it an issue?

FOR SALE! "SOLD"

I have 2 of these and I'm only going to need one.

I think the company ships them out with shipping included for $158 (in the US)
I'll let it go for $125 shipping included. Unless the shipping is ridiculous, we can work that out how ever you want.
(PAYPAL Buyer preferred but not necessary)

Is it supposed to be pink...?

LOL I think that's an overall color balance issue. Fluorescent lighting? Green floor confusing the white balance? Who knows, but I'll let you know if it's pink when it shows up at my house :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

LOL!
No it's not pink!
That all happened in photoshop when I decided to crop and make the images smaller to post them.
I may have accidentally messed with the levels a little...:lipsrseal
oops! I forgot to take the sunglases off! ...yeah that's what it was!:banned:

tripod mounting slider...

tripod mounting slider...

ok so after a few shots on the rubber "bricks" - which all worked very well

I finally decided to put the slider where it's meant to be - on top of the tripod.

Just to get things straight I have a fairly low level tripod - meaning it's not super heavy/robust but it's also not a total piece of crap - at least I hope not...

It's a manfrotto 501 head on 755B sticks

Here's what I did.

1. Screwed the quick release plate onto the slider (through the center 3/8" threaded hole) - this was fairly tight.
2. screwed two crappy monopods onto the ends of the rail just for end range support - wasn't sure if this was necessary.

But the problem is the setup is not stable - the slider of course does not move by itself but the entire assembly is not very solid - meaning when I twist the slider at all (either around the Z-axis of the tripod or up/down away from the ground) - head of the tripod feels like it's giving away a little...

I have tightened all the contact points quite a lot...so I am thinking

(a) is my tripod too blame - do I simply need something more robust - head specs should be able to cover the 12lbs camera weight - especially as I am not dynamically putting weight on the head (at least not now)
(b) maybe a set of tripod spreaders would make a big difference - but I just don't know

so I figured I'd ask - are people getting good performance on tripod alone or do you recommend weighing down the lags and/or sandbagging them (or using a leg spreader) ?

Thanks

Nick

I haven't put my slider together yet, so I can't speak from first hand experience with it, but I would suspect a few things.
1. I would get some sturdier legs and bag 'em down.
2. I would mount the slider directly to the legs instead of the head. If you want to mount the slider to a head, I would get a much beefier head.

I'm a moron.
10 days ago or whenever when I first used the slider - I mounted it to the legs directly ;)

this morning I'm half asleep going - "hmmm - I recall having to spin the legs around last time - how odd is that"

This explains why. straight onto the legs it is then ;) - plus I ordered a ground level spreader which will help quite a bit.

on any tripod head, having weight out on the ends is going to take a tole on the head after a while. On my old slider, I had it configured like this and it has loosened up my 503 a bit.

I would still recommend baggin' the legs... I use (3) 5lbs ankle weights I bought at Sports Authority. I can slide this right to the end...no problem or tipping.

Thats a nice solution but if you are traveling to a shoot, you don't want to be carrying extra dead weight with you. I've been thinking about waterbags (to use like sandbags).
That way they can travel with them empty (and lite as feather)

Anyone here have recommendations for best places to get shoot friendly waterbags?

I have done one of these Ingus based sliders but it's quite hard to slide the carriage. It seems too much friction. Has anybody found the same problem and a solution? I tried using a silicone spray but it doesn't really help.
