DIY DSLR RIG -parts from Lowe's, Home Depot & Walmart

Hey Ted, this is great! Was wondering if you could post an amazon link to the mafrotto qr that you used. Im new to all this and there are several to choose from. Also did you do any apply finishing to your pieces?

Any guidance greatly appreciated!

I just built this based on your designs Ted. It's Amazing!!!! Thanks for the tips! For anyone who is considering doing this, I will say I did run into a couple issues. When you're drilling the holes for the rail block, consider using a drill bit like a 9/16" vs. 1/2". I found that I had to ream out every 1/2" rail block hole multiple times to get the bars to line up. I'll try to load some pictures of my effort later. It doesn't look as pretty as Ted's, but it still looks great and functions amazingly!

Also, Ted, when do you think you'll finish the instructions for the rest of the rig? I'm really interested in making the chest pad.

Hi Josh,

Glad you found this DIY rig useful. Sorry for the late posting of the chest pad.

I've just posted the guide to making it, it works in conjunction with the others, the chest pad is actually another use for the shoulder pad. The guide is added that DIY corner in my website.

I hope you find it useful as well.

Recently finished a doc and used some configurations of this rig. I'd say it held up well, not only in the "functionality/durability" criteria but also in the "looking like a pro/not diy looking" area. :)

Here's a BTS pic.

The production required me to quickly purchase a small portable pre amp so I can record decent sound straight to cam
ditching my zoom h4n to hasten post so I made another DIY rail black and just mounted the pre amp onto the DIY rails rig.
