DIY Car Suction Mount

Got to where I finally needed one for a job I was doing!
(Probably the easiest, and cheapest rig I have EVER done!)
I will give some advice, but don't have enough time to make a tutorial!

My GRAND total, was about $15.00,and I don't think anything in that price range could even come close to the results I get!

Here's my parts list:

1 - Harbor Freight "Dual Suction Cup Lifter" http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=46134
1 - Piece of 3/16" Flat Plate 2" x 1 1/2 ' (Cut into 6" pieces,for the adjustment bracket)
1 - Ball Swivel Mini Tripod, from Radio Shack
Misc. Nuts,Bolts and Washers

Very easy project,I will have some footage from my new short film soon!
You don't need a tutorial anyways,be creative!
(EXTRA) I also painted my suction cup mount flat black,It's very easy to
dis-assemble,and it looks a lot more professional at a shoot!
Made one for my HVX as well it was a little more money, due to having another suction cup and more flat plate.

Here is the link to Soft Weighs "Multipurpose Camcorder Car Mount Rig",but I like my rig a little better,BUT,you be the judge!

ha!, i'm ordering two of these!

i don't know if i can trust it with the HMC40, but it will def hold few of my cheap cameras.
thnx for the link!

It seems as if this particular rig is exploding now across the internet. I built a similar one a couple days ago and love it.

do you have any examples of the footage your getting with this?

also how much weight could it hold? I have a dvx.

would you position this on the outside of your car riding on the low on the door or wheel area?

CameronMcC, I will be posting some video on top of a car hood in about an hour.
I have put mine in the wheel area before many of times, but you will need to configure 2 suction
cup mounts on your car,due to the weight of your camera, give me about a week and P/M me and I will get
you some more details on that buddy. And 1 single suction cup is rated up to 250 lbs. ,but I would DEFINATILY
use two suction cup mounts.

stupid, stupid question,
but do you think this mount will hold a regular sized camera on car going at 180MPH?

i'm dead serious.

thnx

Ohh most certainly, but I would also advise you to use a second suction cup rig,to combine the suction force, but YES ,you CAN! My brother races a promod Corvette at Bristol Dragway all the time, and we have used it there with no problems at all,but we did use a second one as well.If you have anymore questions feel free to ask!

thanks for the footage. I'm excited about the idea of getting something down near the wheel. I have a cine saddle (which has a car mount) that gives off footage thats a bit steadier than your video, but it can't get low.

Please LMK how to configure the two suction cups together. I'm very interested in putting one together.
