DivX AVI nightmares

I am trying to import an AVI/Divx movie into Avid NewsCutter 5.6

I know I can export a sequence as an AVI movie......BUT how do I import one in????

Have tried a few things....can import the file into my bin all looks o.k but shows up as a white screen in source or sequence with a kind of un-audible popping noise

Any help appreciated....I have tried doing this with three different movies from three different sources.....same results.. :undecided

Convert it to Quicktime with third party software (Sorenson Squeeze, Quicktime Pro, etc). Then import the QT. Easiest and more reliabel method.
