I purchased my HPX170 last week, and also puchased a 72mm tiffen UV protection screw in filter. Dont ask me how, but when screwing in the filter I accidently touched the stock lens and smudged it. So I went to best buy and bought a lens cleaning kit (i know, mistake) with a micro fiber cloth. I did everything as usual, like i have before with previous SLR lenses and fixed lenses. i put the solution on the cloth not the lens. i wiped in circular motions, moving outward.
anyways, after using the best buy solution my lens deveoloped a haze/fog over half the lens. the haze shows up whenever I shoot into light, and no, its not a lens flare. it manifests itself as this kind of smudgyness on the lens.
I got the lens professionaly cleaned by my buddy Vince Roth, the technical director over at Fotokem, but he still couldnt get the haze off.
Its very frustrating. It's ruined many a shot. The camera is two weeks young.
SO my question is, have any of you had this experience with stubborn fog, haze on your lenses? Do you think the alchoholic cleaning solution reacted with the lens coating? In my past years with still photography Ive never had this problem.
