Dissapointed with Panasonic

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

Holy smokes there's a lot of hostility in here. When i first came to this site I thought I was talking to respectful mature people.

Well, I'll just conclude that I think those of you that don't see the capitalistic folly of Panasonic just don't have the business tactic viewpoint.

Don't get angry people, get empathetic. Especially you Jarred. You're the "President/Founder"... You shouldn't start swearing at polite people just because it snowed here last week.

And we'll conclude that you're too new to the world of video and too idealistic to realize that Panasonic not only hasn't done wrong with this move, they've actually done alot of right. Would you rather they finalized the specs when they did, announced the DVX-100A when they did, and then delayed the launch so that it wouldn't have been so soon after the announcement? They couldn't announce before they actually had a product to talk about, so that's the only other option. I suppose you could take the viewpoint that they should have announced that they were going to improve their products, but in a capitalist society I, for one, take that for granted. Are we amazed when Apple or Intel announces faster microprocessors without having said specifically that they were working on faster microprocessors?

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

Ha ha.. sorry for the profanity. I shoulda just called you a moron and left it at that.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

Wiyum, do you know much about computers and hardware? The general timeline behind knowing when a new product is coming out and when it is actually released is upwards of 3-6 months in advance. Especially when it comes to CPUs. That isn't a good example to use. It isn't idealistic for Panasonic to respect customers enough to give them a wide girth of time to make adequate decisions about what product to buy/wait for.

Jarred: I am amazed by your level of maturity. I accept your appology nevertheless.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

Decius, if you want to know whay everyone is getting upset, think about what you are saying.  Basically you just told 90% of the people in this forum that their camera is now obsolete and is not fit to be used as a professional camera.  You are infact telling people that you are better than them because the camera is not good enough for you, but for all those not quite as creative/artistic people out there, this camera should be fine.  I know that is probably not what you wanted to convey with your message (maybe it is, I really don't know you), but that is the way it is coming off.  Like others have mentioned before, it is not all the cool little gadgets and settings that will make your projects look great, in fact, it really isn't the camera at all.  I have seen some great short films that were done on Hi8/ digital8.  The equipment sucked but the film was entertaing, got the point across, and was asthetically very impressive.  I would say, save yourself the $2000 or so and put that money into a project that you can shoot right now.  I guarantee, in the end, what you shoot with your "outdated, crappy, no good" dvx100 will look no different than if it were shot with a 100a.

ps, the short f4.5 on my website was shot with a hi8 about 3 years ago and edited last year.  It's not that great :(, but at least this time I can blaim it on the crappy equipment.  I swear, if I had another $1000 it would have won an oscar or something. 8)

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

yes, but you mention it several times thoughout the thread, you are dissapointed with the missing features of the dvx100.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

"Your point? It is obsolete. It offers sub-standard operation. "

So what the hell did you mean when you said that..

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

"Not to say it isn't a good camera, but it was not as evolved as it should have been. "

"I know it's a good camera... I wouldn't have bought it otherwise. But the many things that did in fact really bother me when I first got it have been remedied in the new version. "

"I did not state that my camera is worthless. I stated clearly that I think it is a very good camera."

"I am indeed a DVX enthusiast. I would not have invested the money that I did into it if I wasn't."

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

no not you Scharky.. he said that in this thread a couple posts back.... Dont know why he is so pissed at panasonic. IF it wasnt for Panasonic the only other Pro-sumer option you would have is SONY. thats it.. One choice... and thier upgrade path is pretty sad in thier prosumer line.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

Sub-standard - The "A" is now standard. It has improved features and quality (as per Panasonic's release information). If the "A" is standard and the DVX100 performs below that (in any respect) it is sub-standard.

Obsolete - Perhaps obsolete isn't the best word for it, although it "can" apply to what I mean. It isn't being produced anymore, it's been replaced by a very similar alternative, the price will drop quite severely in the next few months.

Can you make good videos with it? Of course you can!

Was Panasonic negligent in this move? Yes, yes it was.

Do I hate Panasonic? No, because I'm going to re-invest in their latest creation.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

"Now I look at it with pity. Like it's the retarded brother that couldn't."

lol.. you need some lithium dude.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

ob·so·lete ( P ) Pronunciation Key (bs-lt, bs-lt)
adj.
-No longer in use: an obsolete word.

-Outmoded in design, style, or construction: an obsolete locomotive.

-Biology. Vestigial or imperfectly developed, especially in comparison with other individuals or related species; not clearly marked or seen; indistinct. Used of an organ or other part of an animal or plant.

I guess if you use the second definiton, sure, but that would as well make my '92 BMW Z4 obsolete as well, and I'm just not willing to accept that. (yeah, I wish).

Anyways, it is definatly still in use, and although it is imperfect, the 100a is more like an already an already great smile that gets braces anyways.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

lol, okay, forget it guys. Some of you are like Panasonic Nazis. Worship thine Pana with no doubts and Pana will set you free. End of discussion.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

Yeah.. but the thing is the dvx100 is far from being outmoded....

Decius why dont you just write a letter to panasonic and let them now how pissed off you are.

Re: Dissapointed with Panasonic

Man I should be the one pissed at Panasonic. They won't fix my no box/ no waranty/ broken brand new dvx100a that calls upon the killer mad fuzz flies that attack my poor fluffy:)

Re: Disappointed with Panasonic

ha ha.. I'm no Panasonic Nazi.. some things about Panasonic piss me off too.. your argument though is just garbage, and your getting mad at a company for doing the entire industry a favour. It's just ridiculous.

And like I said, there would be no pro-sumer market besides Sony if it wasn't for Panasonic, and for that I am grateful.
