Good morning everybody,

I just have purchased your HVX Book and the new HVX200 E of PANASONIC.
Now, I have to replace my station and I intend to buy very soon the new MAC PRO. I will take the 2 XEON dual core 2.66 Mz with 3 GO RAM, 250GO HDD for the OS and two 500GO HDD for the video. ( a question should you mont these two HDD in raid o?)
But I don't allready take the decision for the display.
What whould you do for a budget of 1000 - 1200 $ ?
Would you buy the 23' Apple display, the new coming DELL 2407, SONY or whatever.
Thank you for your comment.

I am biased as well. I have (2) 23" HD Displys from Apple. I am buying (2) 30" next month. And will use the (2) 23"'s above my editing suite as client viewables... I love them.

You will certainly not be disappointed in the Apple displays. However, you could easily get 3 19" displays for that budget, so it might pay to look for something else. I've never hesitated to be a Mac guy and pay more (in the past now, thankfully) for the actual hardware, but I've never bought an Apple-branded display. Again, though, you won't be disappointed if you go that wrote. I'm just cheap.

Apple is updating their displays to 24" very soon.. as well as built in iSight cameras... also the dell 24" 2407 is a very good monitor as well; esp for the price..

I am very pleased with my Dell 2405 as a computer monitor. It would be nice to have the Apple monitor to match my G5, but I don't think the price difference is worth it. The Dell sells at a great price.

I'd get the Dell. The specs on the these monitors are so close (and every comparison review I've ever read has had these monitors neck to neck with each other), that the price should be the difference maker. Both panels are made by Phillips. Obviously the Dell is the better value (because it's cheaper). I have the Dell 30" and love it. My friend has the Dell 24" and loves it. You can buy the Dell 24" for under your proposed budget.

I wouldn't reccomend buying multiple smaller monitors. If you don't have at least 1920x1080 resolution, then you can't view your 1080p/i footage in Full-res. Unless you want it to span the video over two monitors (eeew).

Plus, I use to use a dual monitor system, and sometimes applications don't handle the multiple monitors like you would want them to.

Thank you everybody.
And what about the oppotunity to mont the two HDD 500 Go in raid 0 ??

Thank you very much.

Norbert.

I was going to go for the Dell because it has DVI, S-Video, VGA, Composite, & Component Inputs, and Flash card slots. I hope the next Apple Cinema Displays will incorporate these features.

I'm thinking about either the Dell 30" or the Apple 30". The dell 30" does not have all the sexy inputs that the Dell 24 has. But for videopurpeses, could anybody tell me if either the Apple 30 og the Dell 30 makes a good screen for the HVX? I'm thinking, The dell 24 has direct inputs from the HVX, but I hear the picture is horrible. And neither 30" has such a connector.

What do I do? Argue with me, please.

I have two ViewSonic VX2520 20.1" widescreen monitors on my Mac Pro and I think they work great. Great contrast and color...no dead pixels. They were $320 each after rebate.

I know there are a lot of Apple CD fans here, but from a guy who's edited on with both, I'll take my two 20" widescreens over one 20" Apple CD.

With the internal SATA drives I would not mount them in Raid 0. You want your Macintosh HD (Where all your program data is stored) to be seperate from your scratch disk (where all your video data is stored) Although striping them into one logical drive increases performance, you never want to be pulling data for your software and for your video off of the same drive.

If you want the true increased speed of Raid 0 get a third drive (WD Caviar goes for about 225 for 500gigs) and stripe that with the video drive, now you have a 1 TB Raid0 video storage drive that'll really fly.

You may want to consider upgrading the graphics card to the ATI X1900XT. Much better performance for only $250 more.

Thank you for your appreciation about the problem concerning the mounting of two HDD of 500.
You know I'll had three HDD in total
One for the OS and two others of 500 GO for the video.
Do you mean that it would better to have a fourth one ? But why then.

Thank your for your answer.

The replacement of the 23" seems obvious with the introduction of the new 24" iMac. As far as the built-in iSight, it seems like a guess, but since ALL of Apple's products with built-in monitors (iMacs, MacBooks, and MacBook Pros) come with iSights on board now, it just looks like the next logical step.

In fact, I would expect the entire Cinema Display line to be revamped in January. (20", 24", and 30"?)
