FS5: Display Clip Length?

I tried searching but couldn't find this in the manual or on DVXUser. Probably because I don't know the proper term. The time display in the upper right is showing me how much time has been recorded in the camera since the last FW update. I want to set it to just show how much time has recorded on the current clip, then go back to 00:00:00 at the beginning of the next recording. I could do it on the EX1, but can't find it here.

Little help?

The FS5 does not have that function because it is not an XDCAM.

Dang! I was sure the big XDCAM written on the side meant it was. I just don't see the use of having an arbitrary TC number running that has no bering on anything but how long it's recorded since the last FW update.

Stenciling XDCAM on the side doesn't make it an XDCAM. The FS5 is actually an NXCAM from the FS100 and FS700 lineage. Those cameras have almost nothing in common with their XDCAM cousins. You noticed that there's no XDCAM codecs on the FS5, right?

As do I. That complaint is near the top of my list of the most irritating things about the FS5 . . . and that is a very long list.

While I got you here Doug, have you run across a way to get audio going into one of the channels to be recorded on both channels? It's annoying to have a mic just be in one ear, not to mention that you can protect for overages by turning one channel down. Again, the EX1 had a nice audio section that spoiled me.

Sure. You can feed the input of XLR connector 1 to both channels. You'll see the option in the CH 1 and CH 2 menus to make Input 1 the source for both.

Oh OK I see now. It's counter intuitive that the XLR on the handle is "Input 2" since that's the one I would use first, being that it's right by where the mic goes, or where I would put a wireless unit. It doesn't appear they allow Input 2's signal into both channels, but I can get Input 1 at the back of thew camera into both. Thanks.

You are correct. And it's one of the dumb things on the camera. If you can write the code to route XLR1 to both channels, then how hard could it be to route XLR2 to both channels too?

This is one of my issues too, I want the shotgun mic at input 2 to record to both channels, with both set manually with one a bit lower than the other for safety. A bit barmy that this can't (currently) be done. Let's hope the feature is added with future FW updates.

Maybe there is an official feature request avenue. It's not a big enough problem for them to spend time on I imagine. You need to have big threads with much wailing and gnashing of teeth to get an issue addressed. I'm surprised they acknowledged the codec's tearing issue, and announced a fix by end of February.

Yes, it is counter intuitive, but probably done because you can remove the handle and by doing so, remove the mic input. I assumed that the input on the handle was input one as well and couldn't figure out why my audio feed wasn't coming through until I looked at the text on the camera by the inputs.

Of course, if you have remapped the buttons as I have, then you can't do that, but you can access the same screen menu function by using the shutter button.

One of my gripes is that there are many fewer buttons on the camera than the EX1r. Obviously, there is less real estate for them, but I still miss the assignable and hard coded buttons that made life a lot easier.

Yes I knew it was input 2 on the handle, but only tried to send input 2 to channel 1 and 2. Even if you can remove the handle, that should be input 1 I think. But we're dealing with nerds here, not people that use things.
