discreet vs. adobe

you should prefer the one that fits your workflow and way of thinking as well as has the toolset you require.

..yeah those prices are rediculous.. they better change their way of thinking or they will start to go the way that avid was untill they released their lower cost solutions. theres a law of diminishing returns, and who wants to pay 1/2 mill when you could ulitmately do the same thing with a few thousand?

Those prices are from a few versions ago, I don't know if the price has gone down since then, but they are definatly not for the consumer, prosumer, even professional, they are more for like, large production companies.

Fire/ inferno and DVX??? Anyone has a spare milion dollars? Why would you use a 4K capable setup for mini DV??? AE is more than enough...

Don't forget combustion. I personally prefere it to AE, but that's just me. They are in the same ballpark.

Fire and Inferno are huge.
AE (and also conbustion or Digital Fusion etc) can do more than you would ever need. go to the creativecow site and watch some reels in the AfterFX forum....it will blow your mind without blowing your budget.

Inferno is meant to work with 1080p in realtime, and requrires a dedicated Unix machine to run it. I'm sure the keying and compositing affects are much more powerful. Think of combustion as inferno's little brother.

Take a look at Combustion. Many of the same tools and the same interface as its bigger brothers. You don't get the astonishing real-time power of the bigger apps but it's still an amazing product.

and which do you use? inferno or combustion?
should I change from adobe, if I want to produce things like in the "big films"?

A good percentage of TV shows use after effects, I have worked with the artists of CSI, Desparate Houswives, ER, Monk, Deadzone and a few other biggies . . . all done in after effects . . . enough for them . . . enough for me, as a tool that is.

Hey Z your avatar is from that movie . . . Labyrinth . . . I have the DVD, great 80's stuff! Rock On Bowie!
