Discontinued

It looks like Panasonic has done a major housecleaning of their handheld camcorder lineup. B&H lists the PX230, PX270, DVX200, UX90 and UX180 all as discontinued, and none of them appeared on the Panasonic pro AV web site as of yesterday. (However, some are back as of today, for whatever that's worth.) The value of my camera fleet just dropped substantially if this is true! (I have a PX270, UX180 and DVX200, among others.)

This is not totally shocking - the CX350/CX10 combo covers most, but not all, of the capabilities of these cameras - but it seems like quite a dramatic step to drop so many models all at once.

I'm honestly surprised they lasted this long..there have been only like 5 or so [combined] new camcorder models from the big 3 in the last 3-4 years (not counting any $10K+ systems).

Mirrorless mania has pretty much sealed the fate of camcorders. It's disappointing no new models with the tech advancements have or will be released. For my work (live event, even interviews) camcorders are still the better choice for my work flow. I have considered and been tempted to get a mirrorless but when I calculate the cost not only the camera but lens and rigs accessories, it really gets expensive. Ergonomics, battery life, lack of standard video buttons and features makes filming more difficult despite the shallow dof and better image quality...

I don't know if discontinuing will really effect price that much because it will mean now there will be a decreasing supply on the used market.
