Any ideas? Tried a mirror, it didn't work :cheesy:

I so need a bloody viewfinder (top placed) but don't want to sacrifice the liveview, that's not acceptable. Anyone tried disabling the sensor? Like, successful? I just assume that all viewfinders on the market covers up the sensor.

What camera do you have?

I believe that you can disable the proximity sensor on your camera.
I can on my Canon T2i/550d.

You know that as soon as you enable live view/video mode. The shutter goes upwards.
So the top viewfinder goes black? And no, you cannot disable this in any way. It simply isn't possible.

It's not because a proximity sensor. It's because of the way DSLR's are build. Look into something like the LCDVF, a Zacuto viewfinder. Or just a simple Ebay LCD viewfinder knock-off.
