Disable Mechanical Shutter

hi,

im new to the forum and i have tried searching but couldn't find anything. i would really like to be able to disable them mechanical shutter in my gf1. the main reason is so that i can use exotic lenses and get them extremely close to the sensor without damaging the shutter mechanism. and also to hopefully get faster flash sync.

so, is this something that is possible with a firmware hack or not? i understand that when disabling the mechanical shutter, the exposure times will not match what is on the screen but i dont mind having to take a few shots to get the right photo if i can use interesting lenses.

I've actually thought about the need for almost the opposite option. I cannot understand why the mechanical shutter does not close when the camera is turned off. If it did that, then when you turn the camera off to change lenses, the sensor would not be exposed and would be less likely to pick up dust. I understand that the shutter needs to be open for live viewing, but why not protect the sensor during lens change?

So, if the hack can be made to control when the shutter is open or closed with a menu selection, then maybe both of our requests can be possible.

The sensor already has a rolling shutter for the video mode. This will help with your lenses that get close to the sensor, but rolling shutter is bad for flash photography. It would only work to increase flash sync speed if the sensor could read out all locations at once (no rolling shutter). Sensors are not ready for that yet. That is why the camera has a mechanical shutter to begin with. Maybe the GH3 will have full sensor progressive readout.

i wasnt aware of that so thanks for the tip.
