Edited on AE /fcp 4.1 mac
This is a quirky house music trak which is very much still in working progress but - I am at the stage of nearing completion & I really need to know how to encode it bigger screen size but still retain its quality & keep the file size as low as possible + I want to try & cater for both mac & pc heads, so , will mp4 be a problem for most ? Any ideas on how to improve on this encoding wise - would be very much appreciated.

I have been using either QT compression or compressor but mp4 seems to be the best medium ?
Should I be looking into wmv or mpeg 1 more for pc users & leave mp4 .mov for mac heads ?

Cheers:)

Nice job, Very cool!
Nice use of split screen.

What program did you use to get the streaky shutter look?
I can think of several uses for that look.

Re: "Dirt Raver" Music Video (dance)

looks good.... what codec are you currently using? Give it a try using Sorenson 3...

Re: "Dirt Raver" Music Video (dance)

I like this MUCH better than the previous version (and I liked it too) however, the new footage at the end doesn't seem to be as in "beat" with the music if that makes any sense.

Overall, I really like it.

Oh yeah, correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're planning to use wmv, then your server has to be windows based, so that is something to check into.  However, I think a mov file is probably going to be a little more universaly compatible.

Actually, I would think the opposite. I believe the install base of Windows Media player is higher than Quicktime. Also, you do not have to have a Windows server to host WMV. My site is hosted on Linux Apache servers and has WMV files running fine. Both formats are fine, Mac users will like QT movies better though...

Oh... hehe... I must be confused. :)

Carrington,

That was some hot stuff! I just posted some questions on the Final Cut Pro forum on here about getting that MTV look as far as editing goes and it looks like you have it in your piece. How much of that was AE? Did you use the Time Remapping tool in FCP to speed clips up then slow them down? The pacing was really good too. I would be interested in hearing how you did some of the editing techniques.

Nice job.

2 more comments. I like the shot coming off the escalator then you used some sort of dissolve or solarize effect. Also how did you take a freeze frame then be able to zoom into it or out of it?

Re: "Dirt Raver" Music Video (dance)

The color coming off the escalator looked really nice! Was that achieved on-camera or in post? What were your cam settings(if you remember)? Was that existing lighting or did you set-up your own? Great editing, although I would agree that the pace sort of slowed down towards the end.

Also (question #20), what was your total editing time on this? You did a great job on the whole job overall.

Peace,
Chico

Hey Guys - Cheers for the comments ;)

I have a lot to answer here but, off the top of my head: to dvx shooter & jaredalv - The editing tecniques were just a matter of experimenting within fcp & AE - I played around with color correct tool alot of the time - the pace was kept up by cutting the clips on the beat of the track.Time remap using reviz retimer in AE & zooms done by keyframing basic motion.
The whole section from the escalator onwards  is in draft mode & is still being worked on - to tie in more tightly with the track - so yes I totally agree with the pace & lack of consistent energy in that section.
I'll post some more info & details soon - cheers again  :)

I still have to work out this codec thing in the meantime also ???

Re: "Dirt Raver" Music Video (dance)

Oh Yeah - editing time.

This has been on & off for about 2 months & I'd say I have worked a few days week on this - just learning & experimenting more than anything but - the deadline is about 2 weeks from now - so I am stepping up the workflow. I need a few versions for web that can work on most mac/ pc's + also trying to work out how best to get it aired on mtv &, also - what format to best deliver , to these music tv channels ???

The color coming of the escalator was very close to how it was - I really didn't have to tweak that much - there are some pretty cool underground stations around the city o' london 8)

Wow, that footage looks amazing. I was going to post my homegrown music video, but this project intimidated me .... ok actually, I'm still going to post it.

But very well done. :)

Re: "Dirt Raver" Music Video (dance)

Glad you did Colione :)

Re: "Dirt Raver" Music Video (dance)

Hey Im glad too  :) Colione - you did well mate!

Dont be fooled by my work - its just fancy editing  :-X.. . oops I've let the cat out.

I have uploaded a 2nd draft but - Its still very much unfinished & all over the place + the new footage at the end is still in its experimental stages & I would probably end up using about 30% of it in the final cut.
