Dirt heads or time for checkup?

I poped a clean tape in my camera today and out of nowhere when played back it has lots of noise and drop outs. I ran the head cleaning tape that came with the cam 3 times and the dropouts are still there -- it's so significant that i get hardly any audio with the image. Any "home remedies" before i have to see a specialist?

Re: Dirt heads or time for checkup?

Was it the same brand of tape as you always use? Was the cam in a high humidity environment? It could just be a single crappy tape. If you try another 'brand new' tape and you still have the problem, I'd suggest a visit to Dr. Panasonic for a checkup.

I never use Sony tapes only Panasonic but this one time i put in a Spny Tape... and next thing i know the heads are dirty. Then again when i play that recorded Sony tape it shows dirt too...

Re: Dirt heads or time for checkup?

If you search on 'tape lube' on this site you will find many instances of folks getting drop-outs and worse from mixing tapes. The best recommendation is stick to one brand/type and buy a bunch of em'. Sony 40min DVCAM tapes are all that I use. Why? Because I already had a DVCAM deck.
