I'm trying to figure out the best way to capture video off a DirecTV Plus HD DVR (HR24) into Final Cut Pro. I don't have the DVR box yet, but it's coming Thursday and needs to be fully operational by Friday so I don't have a lot of time to play around.

The box has HDMI, Component, S-Video and Optical Coax/Digital Audio outputs -- but I need to figure out how to get any one of those into my iMac to capture in FCP. I'm assuming there's a piece of equipment that exists for this, but I have no idea what it is.. any help is greatly appreciated!!

Do you have the rights to the footage you intend to capture?

And what is the intended distribution of the footage?

Beyond these issues, which are significant, the only input to an iMac is FireWire.

This forum is intended to assist in FCP issues; not to provide assistance on how to input satellite channel content, which is copyrighted, into an editing application.

I work for a university and am producing a tv show that has full distribution rights squared away for the footage I will be capturing.

The iMac isn't an ideal setup, I realize, but it's what we have in place for this show that is being thrown together at the 11th hour.

What I'm asking for help with is an FCP issue -- what options do I have to get FCP to recognize input through firewire from this DVR box?

Thank you!

I kinda doubt that would ever work. I suspect you'll need to find another method...

With an iMac, none.

If you are producing a TV show with full distribution rights, then use the original footage, not the footage provided by a satellite feed.

There are copyright issues.
