i have never used one but i guess it zooms frame from 15mm /20mm/25mm/ 35mm/ 50mm/ 85mm/ to save time for blocking. would it have these marks?

Yes. They typically have settings for various aspect rations and have scales for 35mm, 16mm, and other lenses. They also zoom smoothly... meaning they don't jump 15 to 20 to 25... etc. They best used by people with a true dedicated prime set... like a rental set or what not. Which has more than 25, 35, 50, and 85.

A good investment for a director!

Yes they have all the different letter box aspect ratio(built into the lens) for every video camera and film camera. (1/4, 1/3,1/2, 16mm, 35mm etc...) And scale for lens selection configure for each camera. This is the perfect tool for blocking. You can try a lot of things very quickly and efficiently.
