Director's Viewfinder for AF100?

I use the Artemis iPhone app, but it has a limited amount of MFT lens options. Under the Digital Still Camera option is a GH1, then Panasonic lenses: 7, 14, 25, 50, 140mm. Really wish it had an 85mm focal length. Great app for location scouts. I also have a mini directors finder that shows 35mm, 16mm, 2/3" field of view.

I use the Artemis iphone app...it's very easy to add a custom camera...which I did for the af100. Then you would have equivalent fov...which you would not with a gh1/2, although a 17mm is the widest it will show without an additional adapter.

Custom camera because GH1/2 sensor is smaller than AF100? What settings did you enter for custom camera?

No the af100 has a smaller sensor than the gh1.In the Artemis app there is a set of instructions you go through in order to set up the custom camera.

Interesting. What would one need to input for AF100 values in this Artemis app? And does this app exist for the iPad? Don't want to get an iPhone just for this.

To make a custom camera you would use a prime lens perpendicular to a wall at a convenient distance then measure the dimensions of fov on the wall then the distance from the wall to the nodal point of the lens (if you do a search you will find many articles and tutorials...it is also useful info to know to do panoramas with a still cam)...the info is entered into Artemis.

According to the Artemis site it works on the iPad.

I like it because you can take pics which record the mm you are previewing.

A note: I'm now a little confused on the sensor size of the gh1...I've seen it listed as 18x13.5 and the af100 as 17.8x10...so not as big a difference then I thought...I was under the impression that the crop factor from full 35 for the gh1 is 1.6 and that on the af100 it is 2...so I made the assumption that the gh1 would not make a good finder...but maybe I'm in error?

People are using the GH cams as B cameras, this I know, but might they have similar FOV, dunno either. I don't think a GH is full frame. It's a MFT camera and if the the Artemis has the GH in there already, I'd simply use that.

That custom stuff you explained, oh boy, sorry - just makes my head spin. I thought you'd have figures to send over so I can just plug them in for various lenses. Good on the iPad, because they also have a slate for the iPad. cheers.

The GH1 sensor size has never been formally released, as far as I know. We have speculated and back-figured that it has about an 18.8mm wide sensor. The AF100's spec is 17.8mm. As such, it's only about a 5% difference. Not perfect for a director's viewfinder, but not all that far off.

Cheers Barry, that's good to know. I guess just put the cameras side by side and just eyeball the difference.

Good info. Several friends have recommended using a gh2 as a 2nd cam...and it would be useful to replace my aging 10d as a still cam.
