I'm no expert on reels, Justin, but I think you could make this even shorter, and thus more effective. There are so many great epic shots, if you cut 90% of the close ups, and cut it down to less than two minutes, you could have a really killer reel. And you write such great pulsing powerful music, I'd love to see something with a more intense song, which would also allow you to quicken the pace of the edits.

excellent feedback.. Ya, that was my fear of it being too slow. Perhaps I'll do another version with a faster paced piece of music.

In researching reels, I found they were all over the map in ranges and styles, so I guess its hard to find that perfect blend. Thank you for watching.

I agree with Jason, it's better to have 1min impressing piece, then 10minutes.

Because people loose there concentration etc...

And I was thinking....Maybe more different things ? So people don't think you can only play one thing :-p

+2

You have some amazing shots that might get forgotten in between the stuff that really can be cut.

way too long and your second set of clips with the people kissing look out of focus. you should never put stuff like that in your reel

I think you need to ask yourself what your hope is for this reel. what is the purpose? are you trying to get directing jobs? If so, do you think that these sets of images will get you those jobs? Think like your target audience.

Thank you so much for the advice.. It looks like it's back to the drawing board to cut it down a little more.

as for the out of focus shot.. that's actually the best video I have of this clip. i think it was a 640x480 clip shot with the (dun duh dunnnn... ) DVX100. And, that clip was compressed so unfortunately, it is what it is.

all in all, i'm happy with it.

I agree I think the problem is most people you might send that too would never bother watching the whole thing if it's too long so a lot of your best shots in the middle/end would get passed over so if you cut it down and take out all the less than stellar shots then you'd have one of the coolest reels ever

Well, you already know it's too long.

Also, I'd like to see an example of your direction...some of the dialogue would help there. As it is, it looks more like a cinematographer's reel than a director's reel.
