directing music video technical advice

Do you have any technical advice on directing a music video?

Or is there a manual somewhere online that you know of?

My friend for example shoots the videos with sped up sound, but I am not sure why exactly. To better mach lips in post-production? But I feel like it creates more problems in post-production. I know the whole slow-motion effect, but I think it doesn't work as well in DV, he speeds it up just 5 per cent the most.

Thank you.

I think its anything goes with music videos. You have to find your voice in your style and work on what you like. If you shoot with sped up sound and then slow everything back down to regular speed in post you get a sort of slow motion feel but with correct lipsynch for the regular speed music. Thats just a style choice. You can do it the opposite too where you slow the music down and have them lipsynch to it and then speed the video up to match the regular speed music in post to get a fast motion look but with the correct lipsynch.
