Direct Capture via Firewire

Ok I feel like an idiot asking considering I have done it before but how do I set up the camera for direct capture via firewire. I got it connected to the PC and set to "1394 Device" mode, I forgot but does it need to be set to "PC mode" to capture. I've done it before but it's been a while and seems I can't remember the steps. Premiere CS5 is not reading any input and neither is OnLocation. Thanks in advance.

p2 or dv?

in any case to do a live capture it needs to be playing in the vcr mode. for p2 you should hit the dub button up and left of the menu button and play the clip. It should show up. If using p2 why not just copy and paste the files to your editing program instead of capturing live. I dotn know about premiere, btu avid needs to be restarted sometimes to see a new device.
