Direct Capture To FCP 5

I made myself a custom laptop stand for my DVX100B which holds my MacBook above the camera. I loaded my FCP 5 disk to it and I have one question: Is there a way I can have device control enabled with the camera in cam mode, not VTR mode? I want to be able to embed the timecode into the metadata without having to manually put it in... Also, how come when I switch to a different capture setting based on the camera settings I change, why will it say "general error" when I try to capture after I switched? I have to close and then re-open the capture window after that... Should I just use a different program like OnLocation instead?

What exact version of FCP 5 are you using?

And which MacBook?

FCP HD (5.6) and the first generation MacBook. 2.16 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo 2 GB RAM 150 GB HD.

Final Cut Pro stopped at version 5.1.4. Then it moved to FCP 6.0 which was part of FCS2.

There wasn't a version numbered FCP HD 5.6.

It's FCP version 5.0

The first version compatible with Intel Macs was FCP 5.1.4.

5.0 is for PPC Macs. You should consider upgrading.
