Diopter setting tips

What's the best way to correctly set the diopter?

Also, what is the conventional wisdom regarding corrective lenses? I wear glasses and would prefer to discard them if the diopter can correct for them. On the other hand I try to shoot with both eyes open so as to cut down on stumbles and this requires at least a contact on the non-diopter eye. What do most people do?

Re: Diopter setting tips

Set the diopter so that the displayed info (like time code, etc) is razor-sharp, for whatever viewing system you're using (contacts, glasses, or raw eye). I use contacts all the time so glasses aren't an issue, but I find I use the LCD panel about 90% of the time vs. the viewfinder, so even then glasses wouldn't be much of an issue...
