Digitizing with AVID Media Composer software version

Does anyone have experience capturing video and audio into AVID Media Composer software version for Mac OSX?

The Mojo works, but are there other options that work? I hear Canopus may work and a ADS box may work. Does anyone know?

I'm interested to know if you can only get NTSC video and analog audio in/out or is there a possiblility to get SDI video and AES audio in/out.... Also what about HD?

Thanks

Avid software works in software only configuration mode for all FireWire formats. Adding Mojo will give you analog I/O. An Avid Mojo SDI will get you SDI as well as embedded audio. HD SDI, etc. requires the DNXcel board.

Back in the day, which was a Wednesday, my previous employer had an Avid Xpress DV system and we used a Laird Blueflame A/D box. The Laird was a piece of garbage, but when it did work, it enabled us to capture NTSC video after it was transcoded to DV. I seem to remember the deck configuration being set at "Generic OHCI" or something like that. I'm on Xpress Pro at my current workplace, but not in front of the system right now, but I think there may be a similar setting in XPro and probably MC for that matter. When it's coming in, DV is DV is DV--as long as you're cool with your SD video being transcoded to DV. The schtick with the Mojo is that it lets you capture composite/S-video/component at 1:1 uncompressed resolution without transcoding. So, if you want that capability, as MichaelP indicates, it's your only option.
