Digitizing Hi8 into DVX into Vegas

I'm wanting to get my hi8 tapes digitized through the DVX for Vegas editing....how is that done? I have the two camera's linked via S-Video cable and the DVX into the computer via firewire, but the hi8 footage only shows up on the DVX screen, and not the Vegas capture utility.

Go to the AV IN/OUT SETUP menu and turn DV OUT to "ON".

(I think those are the menu names, but you get the general idea).

Been giving this another shot and still no dice. Here's what I'm doing:
Sony HandyCam Hi8 into the DVX via S-Video with audio via RCA.

DVX set to DV Out = On as previously advised, and the DVX into PC via Firewire.

The Hi8 footage shows in my DVX viewfinder, but still not in Vegas Capture, though the audio is coming in fine. The capure screen just says "The Device Is Stopped" or "Insert Tape" if there is no tape in it, even though the audio from the playing Hi8 tape is coming through the moniters. Again, it's showing fine in the DVX viewfinder, and DV Out is set to On. Any ideas?

How obvious is the diff between digitized Hi8 and DVX footage, if you try to use both in the same project?

If you still can't get it to work. I would recommend getting or borrowing someone who has a digital 8 cam. Just pop in your tapes in the D8 and firewire it out.

Runyon, you can find a cheap analog converter for cheap on ebay. I'm sure you can get an old analog card for like 50 bucks. Com'on I know you can afford that. You were able to afford your DVX. Why can't you get a job? You got to work in order to succeed in life. Success doesn't come to you, expect if your bill gates kid or the hilton sisters. Just trying to help brotha!

Do you have the "enable DV device control" box checked in the Vegas capture utility? You'll want that unchecked.

Bless you sir. May your children mind your every word and may you never be tied down to a dentists chair with your eyes held open by hooks while Barry Manilo Live is looped on a very bad quality VHS dub in front of you.
