Digital Zoom controller

I hate it when no one answers you. We have the new ones from Fujinon and VariZoom coming in tomorrow to EVS. I'll let you know if they're good after I see them tomorrow and give you the part numbers and prices we paid for them.

The gold standard is the Preston Microforce. It started out as a film camera piece, and then gained popularity with EFP folks because it's just so amazingly good. It's hard to describe why it works so well...it has a large aluminum nub that is stationary and senses which direction your thumb is trying to push it. Somewhat like those eraser nubs on IBM Thinkbooks.

You can find them used if you look in the right places for about $1100-1200.

If anyone cares, its raining in Camarillo which is really unpleasant for location shooting. So, while we wait it out, there's little doubt that the Preston is high on the list however exceptionally expensive for an independent. I will say the if you're considering doing serious motion moves like creeps, racks and others that require precision and timing, this is one of the units you might consider. But for most like us right now in sports television, it is unsuable because while it's reaction time is good, IMO it's just not fast enough.

Thanks Guys I appreciate the response, I Think the Preston Microforce is a little pricey for the kind of work I do but I am open to the others. Thanks Again!

Sorry, VQ. I had zero time to get over to EVS today to pick up the parts. Yes, I could have sent a runner but the place is so much fun to just hang out in and get away from the sets. I was in the day before and Gary Dourdan (Warrick on CSI: Las Vegas) was in there looking at the JVC and Glide set-up. What a great guy and nobody bothers him because most of EVS' customers are studio people anyway. So he's asking questions and people are giving their opinion. I don't want to shill for the place but what a great Safe House for both above and below the line people to go and just hang out. But I'm off topic again. Sorry. Anyway, I'll have someone over to pick up the zoom and focus controls on Monday and let you know the price and how they work when they get to the studio.
