Digital Juice Grip Stands/Flag Kits - any experiences?

Got the big flag kit.
They have it made in India, so be prepared for a bit crude made and finish.
But it get´s the job done.
Better than Mathew´s RoadRags imho, which are a bit flimsy, especially in windy situations.

My kit has the wrong size silk (yellow ribbon) in it, from the small kit.
My UK dealer tries to talk to them since a week - they don´t seem to be very responsive or helpful.
Otherwise, the kit is fine for what it is.

Hi Steve,
thanks for your reply,
can you give me your mail address, since I can´t write you a private message here.

best, Frank

Steve, in your video you have a grip guy flipping the stand to set it up - it's a big no-no on the set. You should lift the stand a bit and set it up between your legs.

I bought both the stands and the flag kit when they were running a sale. The flag kit is an outstanding value. I guess you could try going the DIY route, but for ready-made stuff, the DJ flag kit is pretty much unbeatable, and I've done a fairly extensive search. They also sell the flags separately, and it's good value (and I wish they also sold additional flag frames separately!). The quality is quite decent.

The stands are also quite good for the money. To be clear, these are best used in studio conditions, as they're fairly heavy. The one thing you may want to do is wipe them down after you receive them, because the shafts can have a bit of grease left on them and metal shavings stuck. But nothing a quick run with a rag can't easily take care of. I had a problem with one of the gobo heads, and I sent an email to customer service. They asked for a photo of the issue, I enclosed a few photos and a few days later they sent a replacement. I was very pleased with the customer service.

I also bought the Diffusion Gel Kit during a recent sale, and have been very pleased. So far, I have had very good experience with the product and customer service from Digital Juice*.

*Disclosure: I am not being compensated in any way and have no affiliation with DJ other than a satisfied customer, and I wrote this post of my own initiative.

I was digging into buying one of the flag kits, and wouldn't ya know it, they have a sale this month, 179+shipping from digital juice. incredible deal, i picked up a suction mount and extra 1 stop silk, came out to 288 shipped, right about the normal price the flag kit alone.

Anyone know if Matthews RoadRags fabrics fit on the digital juice flag frames? Matthews makes a Silver/White reflector for their road rags and digital juice doesn't make anything equivalent.

For Silver/White reflector, I just use those foldable bounces for a few bucks. I have the DJ sets (both larger and smaller), and keep in mind that the fit and finish is on the cheap side. For example, in the nets, the free edge is finished with the net folded on itself, which gives it a hard edge and can show up in a shadow - higher quality nets have a very thin finish, so you never see the edge in a shadow.

Yeah, I thought I noticed that in their promo video. That's a bit of a bugger. I wonder if the screen would unravel if you cut that edging off.

I bought the personal flag kit from them and I'm pretty impressed with its quality and value. This is even after they were damaged in the first use (but that was due to the director making them fly in a high wind environment).

I'm thinking of taking the plunge on their grip (c) stands.....they're a great value and considering I don't use them everyday, could be a great price point for me.

Since your based on the Left Coast consider a local manufacturer. Everything breaks & repairs will be simplified. Had a Avenger MiniBoom that was cheaper to replace then to repair.

American's my favored brand, but Matthew's, & Norm's Studio, are more affordable, & widely used.
