I have a Canon 50MM f/1.4 too and it rocks.
The 50mm f/1.8 came in two versions. The older metal-mount lens is pretty valuable--like around $175 bucks used on fleabay. The newer plastic-mount lens is like $75 bucks or less used.
A lot of guys like the 50mm f/1.8 because it is small and lightweight. Of course, if using a 10D, small and lightweight probably isn't a serious factor when looking at lenses.
