Hey all, whats the difference between avi and avi2? I have a project due that says submit in "standard DV AVI files (Type 2)." . So I filmed in 24P f6 squeeze mode and had a friend capture it in premeire(i think his capture setting was "avi video for windows") and Im editing it now in vegas. Does this just mean I will render it as : 24P DV NTSC Widescreen (avi) ? Additionally, which pulldown do I use?
Thanks

Re: Differenxe between avi and avi2?

Type 1 AVI files store interleaved audio and video data (muxed) in one data stream. Type 2 AVI files split the interleaved data into separate audio and video streams. Type 2 files are more efficient for editing because the NLE doesn't have to extract the audio from each video frame.

By default, Vegas renders an AVI as a Type 2 AVI. I don't think it's possible to have Vegas render a Type 1, although I may be wrong on this. You can decide if you want your AVI file to be OpenDML compatable in the custom render options. OpenDML is an extension to the AVI spec that allows files to be larger than 4 GB. The default in Vegas is OpenDML compatable.

Are you printing to tape? If so, you probably want to insert a 2:3 pulldown for your render (I'm assuming you're editing on a 24P timeline). So you could use the NTSC DV Widescreen 24p (2-3 pulldown) template for rendering.

Re: Differenxe between avi and avi2?

thanks, heres what I would like to achieve:

I need 1 file that will be just for HIghest quality playback on computer, and I need one file for output to DVD. SO I should insert a 2-3 pulldown on the DVD file? What about the file for viewing on a computer (HIGHEST QUALITY)

Actually, don't insert pulldown on either. Both DVD players and computers can play back 24P material directly, no pulldown necessary.
