what sort of mics do you need for making a indy film and what are they're features/purpose. i have no idea what the differences between a shotgun lavalier mic are. sorry for the complete amateur question.

I'm not an expert, and although I could begin to explain the high level generic differences between:

shotgun (used primarily for exterior, outdoors)
lav (primarily interviews, though like everything can be used in other scenarios)
hypercardoid (primarily used for indoor/interior shots)

*at least that's my understanding

However, the search function on DVXUSER is quite handy and I'm not being sarcastic. Try a few searches using terms like 'beginner' or 'newbie', with any combination of 'lav', 'shotgun', 'hypercardoid', and/or 'which mics?'
