Different brands of filters - Cheap ones like Zeikos, Opteka vs. more expensive

In keeping with my "can cheap be passable?" line of questions..

I just bought a set of Zeikos "Professional high definition" filters to try on my HMC40. They were really cheap.. I got the set (UV/PL/FLD) for about $10, which is a nice experimental price I feel.. And it seemed like the customer reviews were mainly positive.

Have anyone of you used these, or maybe the also-cheap Opteka, Sakar, Digital Concepts, etc? I wonder how they compare to the more expensive filters from Hoya, Tiffen etc. Even these cheap ones are multi-coated and all that.. But I wonder what kinds of negative effects you might find on these, that would be absent with the more expensive filters.

In theory a cheap filter has imperfections in the glass that can reduce the sharpness of the image. However, I've never seen any test results backing up this theory. It would be interesting to see the results.
