Got an offer today on a used AJ-VF20WE, but the Panasonic web lists AJ-VF20WB, not WE as the one I was offered. Is there any difference?

Hi Christian,
AJ-VF20WBP Veiw Finder is made for NTSC regions (525 lines, 60 fields), AJ-VF20WBE for PAL regions (625 lines, 50 fields).
I live in Europe and use AJ-VF20WBE with my AG-HPX 500 camcorder. I can switch camera from PAL to NTSC in Menu, but picture in View Finder is distorted. AJ-VF20WB is not universal as AG-VF11 supplied with camcorder. Maybe this help you

That I was not aware of, thank you very much. I will take note of the old vf being if I for some reason need to shoot NTSC. The dealer also confirmed the VF working with the 500. Around 650$ for a demo VF20, not to bad I suspect.

I use the WBP on my HPX500, and it works fine. And I always shoot PAL.
Sure, originally, the image is a bit distorted, but you can easily fix that. Just screw the Viewfinder open and you'll find a few dials. Try them out and you'll see that you can change the appearance of the image. There's even a dial for peaking
I just reduced the height using a test chart to make sure the image was correct.

Really, I can't tell whether I'm using a 'NTSC' or 'PAL' Viewfinder. After all, this viewfinder is a CRT monitor, and a CRT is basically NTSC and PAL capable, just depends on the signal you put into it and the correct settings of image handling.

Now focusing is really a breeze
This viewfinder is incredibly sharp and large, compared to the original 1,5".
