Hi I'm new to DVX land and after a quick search I couldn't find any info on why the DVX 102 is different I have the DVX 100 book and I want to know what extra features it might have.
DVX102 is usually designated for the PAL version of the DVX. I've got an AG-DVX102B which is a PAL 25p version of the AG-DVX100B which is an NTSC 24p version (which also has 24pA (advanced pulldown version). The output resolution of the NTSC being 720x480 while the PAL is 720x576. There is no apparent difference in footage quality apart from the fact that the PAL version has slightly higher vertical resolution and also less complicated pulldown. To transfer to actual analog film, the PAL version is usually sped up by a percentage to make it 24p (this is only going to happen when you ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO TRANSFER TO FILM which in most cases are never).
So depending on where you are in the world, choose your format appropriately. I am in the PAL countries (ASIA) so I use the PAL version (also rings true for EUROPE and Australia), if you are in the USA or JAPAN, I believe NTSC is the correct format.
The dvx102 are only coded for the asia and pacific regions. There are pal cameras. But the Pal dvx in europe are also called dvx100. But they have the CE mark which is a mark for the E.U countries. They are both 25p cameras
As for the DVX100 (ntsc) they have 24p or 24p (advance).
