Difference between GH13 and GH2?

I think some of your assertions are simply incorrect (low light sensitivity, you omitted the 1080i mode, if you don't like the touch screen you can use the rear controls just as you did with the GH1 etc.) or embellished. That could be why you feel the way you do.

True about the touchscreen and I have no trouble using 1080i 50i or 1080p as I dont use 24p (I prefer 25p) but I stand by my lowlight claim..the gh1's iso increments are screwy but in a good way.
Banding is a problem for GH1 for example...you dont get that with GH2.
However im one of the lucky folk who have next to no banding with iso800 on my GH1. And I wasnt THAT impressed with the high iso from the GH2.
I gave the GH2 a go felt it didnt give much more for the extra cost on top so sent it back to amazon...money can be spent better elsewhere.
But thats just me ;-)

I was also going to say that the battery change is a major annoyance...but thats said by others already.
Panasonic will be changing lense mounts next.

Lucky you!!!

Haha. I'm speculating that they changed the battery design to fit into a battery grip. Slimmer batteries will make the grip slimmer? I'd get pissed off if Panasonic changes the battery grip design on GH3.

Hey Roxics,

This sounds cool. But I can't find a URL in this thread. What basket are you talking about? Where does this deal exist?

Thanks!
Andrew

I had already put it in my basket and it came out to $375 for me. It said $425 before adding it to my basket.

If you want a 52mm and 78mm F1.7 lens for video with AFC then the GH2 is your only option right now. The ETC mode really is that good.

Can you elaborate on this a little bit for the newbies in the audience? That kinda went over my head...

EDIT: Ah wait, is that because the ETC magnifies at 2.6x, so with the 20mm Pancake you get 52mm, and a 30mm you'd get 78mm?

roxics, forget the stock GH1; the video output will not meet your stated needs and you will bitterly regret your purchase within days if not hours. Honestly - just rule it out and move on.

Arm yourself with the knowledge in this thread:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?218181-GH1-and-GF1-valid-serial-range
and hunt around for a new or used GH1 bargain to hack. The hack turns a nice "family-holiday" camera into a little video beast that's good enough for professionals to make money with, and for indies to make art with.

If you want a new, stock GH camera that's also good - pay more and get a GH2.
I think this is over stated. I have a hackable GH1 that I have not hacked (and probably won't, I'm looking to get a GH2 for the ETC and better low-light), and I'm producing some good stuff with it. Since the OP says that he wants it for hobby work, making films for the internet, how could you beat the GH1 at $375? It's a small investment for a lot of capability. I say, go for it!

I agree and I did pull the trigger on one of these.

Five years ago any one of us would have given our left nut for a stock GH1. Flaws and all. I shot my first feature film back in 2003 on a Canon XL1. 60i SD. My camera guy paid $4000 for that camera when he bought it new. Now 8 years later I just bought a camera for 1/10th that price that shoots 1080/24, 720/60, large sensor, inexpensive interchangeable lenses and little SD cards. If there is some banding and poor low light performance over ISO 800 I'm not complaining. Plus it's a 12MP stills camera!

If you can't make art with this thing then you can't make art.

Who knows, maybe just maybe, (not holding my breath) panny will release new firmware for it.
