Well sorry but considering how it doesn't have a name it's pretty hard to search it.
And your answer wasn't really clear.
Was it:
No, it didn't become the hvx and isn't coming out.
or
No, it didn't become the hvx and is still coming out eventually.
or
No it isn't coming out because it became the HVX.
It sounds like you guys get so mad so easily, not everyone has or can read every thread on this board and with responses like that it doesn't even sound like you encourage discussion.
I found that old link today, how was I supposed to know a camera with no name was discussed?
You gotta be careful around here. I guess par around here is that you must scrub every thread or expect several new assholes. I was wondering the same thing a while back and never got too concrete an answer either. Just that it probably became the HVX. They apparently started in a direction and changed course. Thank god they did, I couldn't be more happy to hear the direction they chose over the 8mm style pistol grip.
Maybe it was, and possibly still is a newer consumer type HD camera they plan on releasing, but at $3000 I doubt it.
To be fair David should have pointed ecking out in a proper direction in the post and not be so short and to the point; ecking has a point; the question was never answered.....
But braw? I know you're not referring to a Moderator as an Asshole?
Oh god no John, I was referring to the phrase "ripping you a new one".
I have no problems with anyone on the board, just warning ecking that it can be as though you are thrown to the dogs when you ask about something that the regulars have hashed to death.
I meant nothing bad in my post or by its wording. If I had said it out loud, you'd have heard the tone and understood. It was quick, but it wasn't meant to be "short."
Alright sorry couldn't tell your tone from your writing, sorry for the mixup on my end as well.
It's too bad this isn't getting made, it looks like the missing link between the dvc30 and the hvx200, loose the pistol grip(which I wouldn't mind too much anyways) and that'd be pretty cool for 3000 dollars, add a firestore or a p2 card to that and you've only spent like 5 grand, at that price I wouldn't mind the loss of tape or the expensiveness of p2. A much more affordable solution compared to hvx + p2 or hvx + firestore.
At that price for a full p2 soultion I bet you that'd get p2 in the hands of way more ppl imo.
For $3,000 if it shot 24p 720x480, and 30 frames/60 frames progressive and interlaced, I think you could get more p2 cards out there, and fill a market of thoes who can not afford $6,000.
I just don't know that anything would come of it. Panasonic can be a company that craps out sub par "cheap" cameras, or continue doing what they do, create pro quality cameras that rarely skimp on the features.
I think it would be damaging to their image or credibility myself. $3000 is FX1 and DVX price range. It would attract a crowd of folks that want cheap HD and then get pissy that is isn't an HVX. I think if this was the beginning for the HVX, they went in the correct direction.
They should do a consumer line of MPEG camcorders that use cheaper flash cards. P2 is quite a bit pricey and especially for a $3000 fairly limited camera.
I don't know what specifically became of the little "Super 8" prototype, but I can try to connect some dots and we can see if it leads anywhere...
In the beginning, JVC announced the HD1, the first consumer camera. Panasonic surprised everyone by showing the "Super 8" prototype, which, IINM, first had a "HD MPEG-2" label on the side. Clearly intended to compete with the HD1.
Then it quickly became clear that consumers weren't buying the HD1, it was wannabe professionals who were buying it. Panasonic responded by modifying the "Super 8" prototype, showing it at the next show with a new label: DVCPRO-HD.
In the meantime, the DVX had become the hottest camera Panasonic had ever produced, and there was a lot of negative feedback about the form factor of the "Super 8" prototype. So I figure Jan and the rest probably said "well, heck -- ditch that ray-gun Super 8 camera, let's make a full-on high-def DVX." And thus it became the HVX200.
So will a P2-only handycam like the Super 8 ray gun ever come out? Who knows. I don't believe it's still on the drawing boards, I think it evolved into the HVX.
