I just won this auction on a dvx100. It has 660 hours on it though.. i was just hoping to learn how to handle and use a dvx, be able to finish one project which i should be able to do under a few hundred hours of production time and then purchase a new one at the beginning of the year. I purchased because it had many of the necessities necessary for me to complete my project. What do you think.. I hope i didnt mess up to bad?

Should i get it checked first before using... and if so does anyone in Houston know where i can go to have the cam checked out. Your input is appreciated, Robyne

Wow, that's not a bad deal at all. You get the Sony 9" monitor, anamorphic lens, 9 Tiffen filters with case, and tripod. That's pretty darn good. :)

You might want to use an escrow service though... just a thought.

Yea thanks Tommy... I know what you mean... I had several conversations with this individual before hand, already have the ups tracking numbers etc., It should arrive here on Friday.. now all i can hope for is that its not a 45 pound box full of gumballs.

The individual says he shot a film on IDMB.com with this camera so I have a feeling he took pretty good care of the cam. And the footage on that film is to die for.. incredible... I know Ebay is a pretty scary and risky matter I can only hope for the best. Will keep all posted

Congrats on the eBay snag. Looks like you did great. Best of luck w/ your new purchase! I also got my DVX from an eBay auction and it's (still) performing flawlessly.

you know how it is doing the ebay thing.. kind of starstruck (or something to that effect) with only a few minutes to go... wanting to bid... but reluctant as the dozens of questions begin rushing through your mind... and then only 60 seconds or less appear up on the screen.. you slam the confirm button and bid... etc., etc., In fact I wasnt really sure about all the extras.. i just assumed (after hundreds and hundreds of hours researching, while still having no clue) this guy must know what he's doing.. thus saving me hundreds of more hours trying to figure it all out. So all in all I appreciate all your positive feedback thus far... Im feeling even better about my purchase now.. thanks...

I'm sure happy to hear about your successful ebay purchase. It gives me hope. I just checked on the ups.com site and they show its on time for a Friday delivery.

I'd like to also ask what are the first few things i should check on the camera.. any suggestions... I know which tapes he used.. the panasonic dry tapes.. but other than asking whether i should clean heads immediately or just wait for it to indicate they need cleaning.. i really don't know what to check for.... Maybe the tape holder alignment, color... I really don't know... Perhaps i should leave this for the professionals to check out?

Sorry for all the rambling Im just somewhat excited about finally getting a DVX... i'll be even more excited once i know everything is ok

ebay...risk business....stay away for shopsunshine

Hi mackfilm, not knowing whether "shopsunshine" is a business or an individual.. I have learned from many threads such as this to stay away from businesses, especially those in Brooklyn or Crooklyn and bid with individuals. Even then I know ebay is still risky.... I appreciate your input.

No wonder why im rambling... its 3:00 am. Time for bed!!

Ebay is safe, you just gotta pick the right sellers. If the seller has above 98% I will buy from them. I bought my Fx1 on ebay and got a great deal, and I had absolutely no problems. You just have to pick and choose wisely and ask a lot of questions.

I bought my DVX on Ebay. Ebay can really be great, just be careful when picking a seller. Sounds like you got an amazing deal. I have the original DVX100 as well, and it works wonderful. Make sure you get Barry's book, and get shooting digital at www.dvfilm.com

Thanks all.. your shopping experiences on Ebay along with your thoughts about the purchase helps. Im rather new to Ebay but all in all I like the deals that can be had on there.. I second, be careful who you deal with, check out their feedback and ask lots of questions as you try to feel out intuitively whether the person can be trusted.

Im ordering these products as we speak!! Thanks

Hey all, Ive done a few neat things with the camera (30 hours), but there is so much to learn, that I haven't been able to take full advantage of all its bells and whistles. So I am going to put it up for sale. I have since purchased many other items for the camera, lighting (moles, etc), tripods galore, blue screen, blue/green screen holder, sixticolor color flash, and others I can't think of right off the top of my head. There's also a DVD on " "Shooting on a budget" by Vorex. I'd prefer to sell to someone in the surrounding area of Houston. That way I don't have to package and mail. There is seriously a lot of stuff. Practically speaking, almost too much to mail out.

Im not sure what id like to get.. any reasonable offers?? Robyne

I strongly suggest you make a detailed list of everything you have for sale. That way someone can at least make a reasonable offer based on that :)

With 660 hours on the camera, you'll want to reduce additional hours (and head wear) to a minimum. The average lifespan of DVX heads is about 2000 hours. Always use a cheap consumer camcorder to rewind, playback and capture to your computer. Also, you can reduce or even eliminate head wear by using a cheap camcorder as a slave unit.

I never used the camera to rewind or playback tapes only to record so we are ok there. Since there is so many extra pieces I am only going to put up the DVX 100 camera along with remote, 3 batteries, case, charger, and manual. I am open to any reasonable offers. Thanks, Robyne
