Did anyone use 1/3 to 2/3 lens adapter?

The crop factor would be ~2x (give or take since actual sensor dimension varies) since the 1/3 sensor is about 1/2 as small.

Yes I've used that adapter with a Canon 21x7.6 lens. The adapter works fine, it's a simple mechanical device, there are no optics in it so nothing to fear. You put the adapter on and now you can just mount and use 2/3" lenses.

I hate the whole concept of "crop factor", I think it just confuses things. Ignore it. Instead, look at your HPX300's lens, and the lens you're thinking of using. The HPX300's lens is 4.5 to 77mm. We used a 7.6 to 162mm lens. We knew exactly what to expect: the 2/3" lens wasn't as wide, and was twice as telephoto.

just to clarify, if i put on 5.4mm 2/3 lens at the wide angle on 1/3 inch camera with this
adapter, i would have to calculate lens viewing angle 5.4 mm just on 1/3 camera? and this
get somthing close to 11mm , right?

You have the stock HPX300 lens, right? Zoom it to 5.4mm.

That's what the 5.4mm 2/3" lens would look like, when mounted on the HPX300.

i don't actually, i'm trying to find out how can i have super wide angle for steadicam work on hpx300 if buy it...

You'd have to find a lens wider than 4.5mm before it's going to be any wider than the stock lens. Doesn't matter if the lens mount is 1/3", 1/2", or 2/3", what counts is the focal length. If it's a 3mm wide, then it'll be super-wide. It'll be wider on 2/3", of course, but if the point of comparison is the HPX300 or other 1/3" camera, the point of reference is the stock lens.

Fujinon makes a 3.5mm 1/3" zoom which is really pretty nice and very wide. Probably the widest lens you're going to find in any format.

By the way... any hints about which one of these would be a better wide angle adapter/lens for the price?

Century Precision Optics has at least 3 options I believe would work with the HPX300:

WA-7X5X 0.7x and 0.5x Wide Angle Adapter Set:

WA-8XIF-LC 0.8x Zoom-Thru Wide Angle IF Converter Lens:

WA-8XIF-00 0.8x Zoom-Thru Wide Angle IF Converter Lens

Anyone? Barry? Inputs welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Henry.

thanks Barry, so 3.5mm on 1/3 camera is as wide as it's possible without putting any
adapters, i'm a little disappointed :(

If the lens is CAC and if an appropriate CAC file is developed for it, then yes.

So far I don't know of any 2/3" lenses that have had CAC files developed for adapted 1/3" use.

It's the widest that I know of that's available now. I don't know if it's the widest possible, I'm sure someone could develop a wider lens but I don't think anyone has yet.

Hi Henry, i have the Century WA-8XIF-00 0.8. Im very happy with that. It works fine and looks very good mounted on the 300. I didnt tests with testcharts and HD-Monitors, but for my feeling there are no noticable issues. I disabled CAC, because i dont know if that could cause problems.
I did a lucky strike and found a used one in almost new condition for 280 €, including the necessary 85mm adaptor.
If you have the possibility, please test it before spending 1500 € for a new one!
Maybe the guys from B&H could do some tests? I think they could sell a lot of their adaptors, if they would give a recommendation!

in my experience, if it says century on the side it's good. i've never heard of a bad adapter from them. i own an hd fisheye adapter made by them for the ex1 and it's awesome...

Emmet,
Thank you so much for your input. Yes, very lucky you with that finding. Actually, testing it before buying is almost impossible since I live in Ecuador! And expecting B&H to test it or any other options would be quite a miracle. So any additional and dedicated tests you might do in the meantime, would be an invaluable new post for this forum and all of us, the HPX300 followers... Remember to upload some pics... That'd be the best!
Anyway, your word of approval to this converter is quite enough for me... Thank you again!

Cheezweezl,
You are right! Century Precision Optics (Schneider) have wonderful products.

Cheers.

Also consider the sunshade/matte box needed when adding a w/angle adapter. I got the Century x.08 but the expensive £300+ UKP lens hood they supply to match is ugly, brittle and flimsy and nowhere worh that sort of money. I sent it back and use a rubber hood instead gaffered on :crybaby: - surprisingly far less fugly and totally durable.

You need a very big matte box and rails for a standard matte box to go over the adapter - mine only goes over the std lens. This has been a big issue for me, and still no satisfactory cost effective solution.
