I ran into this today, couldn't find it in past posts (didn't check dvinfo.net, though). Although I knew about the XDCam HD, I did not know of any testing comparing it and the AG-HVX200. Things like this make me say, "should I go for an HVX-200 or wait and save for an XDCam HD system for SEVERAL thousand dollars more, but less than a Varicam set-up?"
I'm not so sure if 1/2" HD lenses are on the market yet as well; I guess we need to wait and see. I would suppose a month before this release by Sony that Panasonic will be announcing a 2/3" P2 cam that records DVCProHD and a brand new format as well . . . Eventually it will come to a point where none of us will buy anything! And we'll just be waiting and waiting ...
I'm just being fecetious on that last part. The point I'm trying to say is that as an end-user I guess it's frustrating seeing constant improvements, and as a result revamping professional purchases on equipment because of constant announcements of releases. Add to this layovers and delays, and it feels more often like a tactic to stall potential buyers in a market than help them in any way.
Even though that's a downside to the products being released today, I'm still amazed by these constant improvements ... I can't wait to make a less expensive feature film comparable to that of 35mm, as many people on dvxuser have noted in the past (provided an execution of lighting, sound, etc.) than what it probably would have cost even shooting 16mm.
