Dice-K Has More October RBI Than Jeter or A-Rod

"In his second career postseason at-bat, in the 3rd inning of Game 3 of the World Series, Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka hit a 2-out 2-RBI single.

In 17 2007 postseason at-bats, New York Yankees shortstop Derek "Captain Clutch" Jeter had 1 RBI. Just one.

In 14 2007 postseason at-bats, New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, The 2007 MLB Clutch Performer of the Year Presented by Pepsi, had 1 RBI. Just one.

Regardless of their lack of clutchness, Jeter and Rodriguez remain eligible for one free taco each next week (a $0.77 retail value)."

The Yankees are now the team that's cursed. Ever since that 2001 World Series they had just about sewn up, and Luis Gonzolas hit that walk-off bloop single off Rivera for the D-Backs victory. After that:

2003 World Series stumble against the wild card Florida Marlins - Game 4's walk-off HR by another Gonzalez (Alex) and then the inability to hit more than three singles in the Game 6 melt-down against a young Josh Beckett, all in Yankee stadium.

2004. Up 3-0 against the "cursed" RedSox, after winning game 3 by a score of 19-8, the Yankees then had the biggest collapse in baseball history, losing the next three games, the final one having the rival RedSox celebrate right in the house that Ruth built.

2005, 2006, 2007 - The "legend of A-Rod" and his hitting into double plays and striking out when they needed him most, in the aforementioned stats. $25.8 million a year, and this is what they got.

2007 - After signing Roger Clemens and Andy Pettite from the golden years, they take a trip to Cleveland in the playoffs and get invaded by the bugs, which seemed to only pester the Yankees, once again sealing their doom. Adding insult to injury, the rival RedSox went on to win the World Series once again.

I have this strong hunch the Yankees aren't going to win another World Series for 80 years. They're cursed.

Living in Seattle I/we got a taste of what a lying loser Arod was. Now I laugh at Texas, the Yankees and the next foolish team that opens their pocket books for the most selfish over-rated player in baseball.
As a long time Yankee hater, I'm glad they got a taste of Arod, as a recently converted Red Socks hater, I hope they're next on the list of soon to be former teams Arod used.......

He's no Reggie Jackson that's for sure.

Please Boston

DO NOT SIGN A-ROD.

Jeter is a nancy. Yankees suck.

Anyone remember when Varitek punkd A-Rod ?

Awesome.

We all hope the Sox don't sign A-Rod. Jeter is the real deal, he produces in the playoffs. A-Rod is abysmal in the playoffs, and he demands way too much money. Plus no one likes him either. And ya, I remember Vtec punking A-Rod, we all remember that.

eter is the real deal, he produces in the playoffs...

Uh, did you read the original post? He had but 1 RBI in the entire 2007 playoffs! Just as futile as A-Rod!

Having said that, A-Rod really is an overrated choker. Not just one playoff like Jeter, ARod has now had several years in a row where he's put up huge numbers, only to hit worse than an American League pitcher in the playoffs. He's also the greedy snob that ddb talked about. Personally, I wish he'd stay in NY. I don't see the RedSox signing him. Lowell plays almost as well, much better in the clutch, and is a third the price.

Jeter is the real deal. True, true. One of the great plays I ever witnessed in baseball was his run and throw to the plate from SS to the first base line.

Doesn't mean I have to like him.

the red sox winning the world series scares me. mainly because i'm worried about being subjected to another jimmy fallon movie.

You know, I'm not Jeter fan, and I hate the Yankees. But it really shows something when there is this chorus of people, including me, who just despise A-Rod, but don't mind Jeter that much. Anyone remember the play during the 2004 ALCS when he swatted the ball out of Meitkewitz glove at first base, then tried to act like it was an accident in the act of running? How about the time he rounded third on an infield fly this year, and tried to distract the guy from catching it by yelling at him. Really dirty, cheap play from a guy making close to $28 mil a year. And on top of that opted out of his contract to make more money. In Seattle they call him Mr. Greed, and for good reason.

Manny said in today's parade they don't want A-Rod, they like Mike Lowell and want to keep him.

I just don't see ARod ending up in Boston no matter what. Out of the teams that can afford him, it's most likely he'll go to the Mets. Or if Mark Cuban buys the Cubs, he'll almost go there for sure as Cuban likes to spend money.

Back to the original post. What a steal the Sox did this year. They paid all that money for Dice-K, and in the end he paid dividends with his arm and his bat. And off the field take a look at the enormous amount of merchandising and publicity they got from having him on the team. Adding Okajima iced that. Plus take a look at the way their rookies performed, mostly Pedroia and Ellsbury.

Does anyone know if players who didn't play, but are on the roster still get rings and full profit sharing? I think so. This would include Clay Buckholz (kid who threw the no-hitter) and Matt Clement, who was out all year with injury.

Jeter may have been bad this postseason, but all the other ones he's been great. I'm the furthest thing away from a Yankee fan, but I respect Yankees like Jeter, Posada, and Riviera.

A-Rod never was a real Yankee. I'm sure a lot of Yankee fans are glad he's gone, even though he was a great reg season player.
Sox management better not sign him, or there is going to be HELL TO PAY!

That was against the Jays, I watched that, he did it in the top of the ninth when the game was completely out of hand too.
