Dexter

Im so P,O'ed right now,had to attend a friggin prod.meeting and ended up missing the original airtime and the replay!! I guess i"ll have to wait for it to show on demand, but Dexter friggin rocks!!

Meh, I didn't really like the new episode (Season 5 Ep 1). The acting choices were pretty weird to me.

For instance, when Dexter and Deb hug... Dexter gives a strong hug and lets out a sigh, so Deb pushes him away and leaves? There were lots of little moments like this that were just unclear.

Also, nobody seemed to care about Rita dying. I get why Dexter acted the way he did, but nobody else reacted believably. IMO.

The hug was a bit odd but of course so is their relationship. Heck, they're both odd. Deb was probably angry that she had displayed affection that was not sexual. Or mad at Dexter for asking her to step in as a surrogate mother.

As far as the others are concerned, most of them are cops whose reaction to murder has been blunted.

Dexter's reaction and behavior have been typical of him, including the fact that he feels guilty. Dexter has always felt remorse and this has never really jived with his inability to experience other emotions. Also, Dexter's intelligence was belied when he said, "I'm sorry for your loss," to the kids and grandparents. That line was not needed to convey Dexter's already obvious emotional disconnect.

It will be interesting if the nascent questioning of Dexter's involvement in Rita's murder begins to uncover his real relationship with Trinity. However, if it merely points the finger at Dexter, the show's interest may decline.

Quite an episode. Dexter displayed dexterity in handling the two bodies. He will partner up again for a while.

I liked Doakes better than Quinn. Maybe Quinn will die (and be framed) too and replaced by yet another adversary for Dexter.

Great follow up. Julia Styles is great as Dexter's GF, loving that. And Quinn's (+ Deb's) storyline is about to explode.

Funny how they went to Boca, that is where I am from.

Love this show!

Yeah I thought that was funny too. I'm from Delray Beach...

I'm a bit late to this party, but I finally got around to watching the first season of Dexter. Along with Breaking Bad it's the best first season of a cable series I've yet seen, just flawless from first episode to last. I really hope the next 4 seasons I have yet to watch are just as good. There isn't a single character on the show I'm not interested in seeing more of, even Dexter's pervy Asian lab assistant. Was already a fan of Michael C. Hall from Six Feet Under but this is a whole new level. Can't wait to watch the rest.

Welcome to the party. It's a good one:thumbsup:

I just revisited the first season myself a couple of weeks ago

Anyone catch the premier?

It was solid enough an episode, but as I said on twitter:

The new #Dexter episode's script did contain a fair amount of exposition. And by "fair amount" I mean "1939 New York World's Fair" amount...

I've become a giant Dexter nerd and dug the episode. I don't think they will ever top season 4, though. The whole damn thing was gold.

I am so surprised they didn't move it out of Miami this season.
As a former-Floridian, I can say that there are a respectable number of sharks there...
Just sayin'.

Just started watching the season premier when I saw this pop up.....I have loved the show since day 1, I hope they are able to keep it interesting this season.

Luckily, Blockbuster went out of business up here and I got all 5 seasons of the show for peanuts. I'm halfway through Season 3, which has not been up to par with the first two seasons but is still pretty darn good. I'm not sure I completely buy the whole Jimmy Smits thing but I'm just going with it.

+1

Season four was television gold. Not sure anything will ever top that. The thing I liked about that season was the relationship Dexter built with his season-long victim. This season is shaping up to have some of the same elements - the 'bad guy' killer is a religious zealot, and Dexter is evaluating religion in his own life. Could be an interesting intermingling going on.
