[quote author=Norm_Li link=board=Clips;num=1098811910;start=15#19 date=10/30/04 at 10:00:38]Hey!

We LOST!

:)

Actually, most of the films there were very cheezy-home-videoish and those are the films that won. I think they wanted cheezy-type videos with the MOST gore.

Oh well! I'm happy with the film. This film festival was organized by two guys for their first time. Lots of people at the screening but it wasn't very professional.

I loved it!

I'll just post my "updated drama production demo reel"
here for some comments/suggestions as well.

I want to use this to look for some jobs here in Vancouver. Let me know if you have any tips or anything!

Thanks,

Killer reel norm. Very professional. I see a bright future ahead of you. :)

The opening crane shots of the fishing village and cenetary shots were wonderful. I especially liked the shot of the dude in kitchen with the blown out window; beautiful.

You the man.

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

Cool!

Thanks!

Any constructive criticism? Is it too long? Originally, I had my video production stuff mixed with the drama production stuff and it was around 6min! Too long. So I cut out the video production stuff and it's not like almost 3 minutes.

Is it better to separate these two genres of production when sending out DVD resumes? I would like employers to know my diversity but also I don't want them to think I am "all over the place" and not specialized in one particular area.

You know what I mean? Any suggestions would help a lot!

Cheers,

Norm

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

The nly suggestion I have is that I would like to see more CLIPS and CUTS and not an actual short film in the middle. Make sense? Honestly, I think tis a great reel but I really enjoy all of the eye candy.

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

Oh so you mean to mix up the 5 or so short films in different orders (clips from each)?

I know what you mean. I think that would be good too instead of having to watching a section of short film.

I just don't know if people would get confused or anything but I also do enjoy the eye candy of many cuts for a demo reel!

Ok, I'll have to re-cut this :)

Also, would you recommend having the same song under the whole reel or different songs with the mix of different clips from the different films?

Thanks,

Norm

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

The song part is a good question. I like it. Keep it whole. I'd personally intercut all of the shorts and try and disperse enough footage to make it appear BIGGER than it is (as in more films). The crane shots are killer. :D

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

Bummer on the loss Norm :'(

Your flick rocked!

I’ve heard sometimes new ultra low end fests shun stuff that’s too good. See them as “ringers” … they feel it would scare off the backyard shooters the following year and kill the festival.

So – No prize likely means yours was not only the best – but WAY better then the rest...

So … congrats! :) :) :)

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

Haha cool! Thanks :)

Not saying that ours is the best or anything, but just a differnet style and feel. The others just felt home-video and maybe that's what the filmmakers were trying to go for but it wasn't my taste for sure!

Norm,

I'm getting the "bandwidth exceeded error" as well. I'll check later, I'd love to see it since I am a big fan of the horror genre.

Hi! I'm coming late to this party, but I just wanted to add my comment that this is a wonderful little film, especially considering the constraints you were working under. I love the look of the outdoor sequence: gloomy, depressing, perfect. :-)

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

thanks! :)

yeah, it was a pretty tight schedule but i guess we pulled through alright!

that day was actually a semi-sunny day but with the magic of the scene file settings, I could create that look in-camera .. yay :D

So, share! :-) What did settings did you use to shoot that sequence?

Norm,

Great stuff! I like the way you used Vivaldi's Winter in there at the end. I just saw a guitar player perform the Four Seasons live, it was intense.

Norm, how did you guys record the audio for this film?

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

We used the Senheiser ME66 in a blimp and boompole. Just fed directly into camera... no mixer.

Re: "DEVOTION" - for 48hr horror film fe

Cracking stuff!!

Though we're all tripod puritans here (well, I am at least), I have to say the handheld stuff really worked in this piece. Just goes to show that it can work if you use it right.

Keep up the good work!!

P.S. This is my first post - hello world!!! :D

I came to see what the buzz on this horror film was all about, but the link seems to be broken...?
