Determining capture settings from tape?

I've just gotten a stack of tapes handed to me that I need to digitize and they were shot w/the DVX; however, it is not clear what was shot 30, 24p or 24pA but I suspect that there will be some variation. Is there any way to tell so that I can accurately log and capture, besides importing and testing on the timeline?

Curious if you found your answer to this question, I have the same problem.

If it was shot on the DVX, you could look at the metadata on a DVX. It should let you know what the shooting conditions were.

Hey Blaine,

do you mean digitize a small clip and check in quicktime, FCP, or whichever NLE to view the framerate? Or did you mean in the actual DVX, in the VCR mode? thanks!

Digitize at 29.97. If it's 30p or 24p you'll be fine. If it's 24A you can simply go Tools>Remove advance pulldown. And you can also tell by going frame by frame. If it's 30p you won't see any interlaced frames. If it's 24pA you'll see one interlaced every 5 frames. Otherwise it's 24p.
