detail settings with magic bullet or dof adapters

to get the film look we decrease the detail level on DVX but if we are going to use Magic Bullet or similar effects in post, shouldn't we increase the detail level, for there becomes a loss in detail with magic bullet like effects. Or if we think about transferring to film? Or if we use Dof adapters? What should the detail settings be like in such situations?

thank you

to get filmlook the image must be made softer to take the video edge off. u can soft in camera or in post. i shot -7 detail and applied magic bullet in post as additional filmlook diffusion.

I have a DOF adaptor, shot my footage at -3 detail. Came out looking fine. The part of the frame that was in focus was sharp. I can however see a person applying more sharpness to it if they want with a DOF adaptor (since I did find that yes, compared to without the DOF adaptor, even the in focus parts are softer than normal) however keep in mind the more you up the detail, the more the grain becomes apparent.
