I shot two of my friends by the water with both detail and v. detail all the way up. I do realize it makes the footage grainier but I'm not really sure how much I can see the artificial sharpening artifacts that are supposed to occur. Which is, from what I understand, supposed to look like partial outlines. I am just wondering if this effect is apparent in these stills to anyone else.

Those images have been resized, so it's not all that easy to tell.

Where you'll see the outlining is on a soft-contrast transition edge, like hazy purple mountains against a pale blue sky. In a case like that the detail level will draw a big black outline to accentuate where the mountains stop and the sky begins.
