Destructive Workflow

Hello,

i recently switched to mac and thereby from premiere to fcp 7. This has all been quite a pleasant transfer and i do really enjoy working with fcp but unfortunately i do not share the same gratitude towards its siblings color and shake which i suppose should substitute my beloved After effects.

My question is how i deal minimum amount of damage to my footage with a FCP/AE workflow, exporting formats and preferred settings if you will.

I work with HD footage on an Imac i7 if that could be of relevance to the wise.

Motion is the application in Final Cut Studio with similar functionality to AE, if you are looking to experiment with these programs.

yes your absolutely right, what i meant to say was in fact motion and shake. i got very little experience with both shake and motion so excuse my ignorance. Well to get back to topic i don't want to change to motion i have tried it and experienced it as vastly different from AE, a program ive learned to handle and work with over more than 2 generations.

So if anyone could relate to using fcp as cutting room and AE for post, all your help is more than welcome!

What camera are you shooting with? In general ProRes or Animation codecs are good ways to exchange shots between FCP and AFX with minimal quality loss.

Yeah, the HD camera you shoot with will dictate a great deal of what you need to do.

What brand is it, and what flavor of HD?
