FS7: Despite all new camera's would you keep the FS7?

NAB, IBC, Photokina, each year newer and better camera's.

I will keep my FS7 for a few years, maybe longer.
Could even resist to buy the Ursa Mini, which is, as all know, five times better :-)

Very happy with the FS7, and still beats out a lot of the specs on the newest released cameras. They are all slowly catching/surpassing it though!

I haven't seen anything in any of the new announcements to make me think "okay time to move on!" - I'll be keeping the FS7.

Although FS7 isn't the perfect camera it has proven itself during the years. I managed to make return of investment in just a few months and it has been the best financial decision I've made when it comes to video cameras.

Would I move to something else anytime soon? Probably not. But I'd like something smaller that do what the FS7 can do without compromises on features.

Sooner or later something as small as these new cameras will come with both internal raw, good 10 bit log compressed, IBIS, great AF, speed-booster friendly. And the IQ will be a step up from fs7. At that point I will upgrade.

I am afraid all these features won't happen at once and in one camera.

(yes, I will keep the FS7. Canon's dual AF is the only feature I would pay a grand for an upgrade)

Yes I will keep it. I'm looking for a camera release that will be a big step up from the FS7 and within $2,000. C200 shocked me with the internal raw, but I don't have a need/clients that raw would benefit. Having shot with 4K 10-bit and having it internal as an option I can't switch to another camera without it. The Panny really has me taking a double take. I love the Dual ISO 5.7K sensor and the smaller size and SD cards usage. My next step is probably to the next tier camera's (F5, C300mkX, or the varicam LT cams).

Maybe AF wont happen very soon outside canon but Im happy to ignore that for around 5 more years :)
Internal RAW is not a priority for me either.
Better IQ, smaller form, better screens, EVFs, IBIS, framerate-agnostic codecs (like xavc-i on fs7), I think it will come within 2-3 years.

For me and my projects more pixels are not necessary; 4K is plenty and I have yet to deliver any project in 4K. The things that would make me jump on different camera system would be higher DR, better color, highlight roll-off, etc. All to do with improved image quality / fidelity but within the FS7 price range.

I was thinking about it the other day and my conclusion is as following.

Those new cameras are finally coming close to compete with FS7 but still not to convince me to sell and reinvest again.
C200: has nice AF and raw, but no codecs in between makes it limiting. Also only 120fps slow motion, I would be expecting more.
EVA1: 5.7K for crisp 4K, 240fps. Dual ISO - by adding speedbooster to FS7 you get 4000ISO, so it's coming close. Mount is limiting, max 6 stops of ND (was expecting more), rest is basically like a FS7.

Those new cameras are smaller and lighter, that's probably biggest advantage over FS7 for me. FS7 became standard in many places, nothing groundbreaking to forces you to buy them. Personally I will wait till FS8 (or whatever the name).

As for a newcomer choice between FS7, C200, EVA1 would be much, much harder.

Having invested heavily into some expensive options for my FS7 (XDCA, Vocas plate with fancy handles), as well as both A7Rii AND GH5 (as I couldn't decide on which to buy:)) - I'm going to keep them for a considerable time. But frankly, now that I can see the super-sharp picture from the A7Rii I am quite disappointed looking at comparatively soft FS7 image...

PS. When I say "sharp" or "soft", I mean resolution more than sharpening; comparing the A7Rii with FS7 it's obvious that after debayering, the latter's pixel count is less than true 3840x2160...

I'll be adding a A7RII to replace my recently sold Canon 5D mkIII. A7SII is more for video work but I might end up only using the A7RII for both.

I recently was able to return my A7s for full refund due to the red sensor noise at ISO 3200 and above. So i purchased A7s II while waiting for the A7s III - hoping it will have much better internal 4K and low light.

Together with my FS7 thats a complete kit, wich does not require upgrade until like others have stated - better slow motion IQ and raw / prores internal...

And the FS7 does have a name in the biz. Im amazed at how fast im getting a tip of the hat with new professional clients the moment i mention my FS7. Its like a shiny price tag on my shoulder that flashes "not a dslr amateur".

I grew tired of having many different cameras with different mounts and lenses, so I just got rid of everything except my E-mount cameras. And I think between the FS7, A7SII and A7RII I can do almost anything thrown at me.

FS7 all the way. Presently mounted on a Movi, ready to shoot scenes for a feature destined for theaters on Veteran's Day 2018. Really should update my profile photo.

Arguably an Arri Alexa Classic gives you exactly that... for a price (secondhand) that is pretty similar to what a new FS7mk2 costs

I would seriously consider that option if I found one in that range. Of course there are some other considerations (as there would be with any new system): power requirements, media, grip/support needs, etc.

It seems the Amira would be a great solution as well (although well outside of that price bracket if you're even lucky enough to find a used one) and it provides the added benefits of built-in ND, audio, etc. which would suit my typical OMB needs quite nicely. I haven't researched it for the Alexa Classic but the Amira does have a UHD option as well - although it is a uprez of sorts (I think)...if it's good enough for the big studios then it's more than good enough for me.

Oh, to have a bottomless bank account... :)

So apparently the EVA will have 4k 60p in 8 bit and up to 30p in 10 bit. The 2k 240p will be in crop mode. The 4k raw out will be a 4k crop of the 5.7k sensor in 60p mode while 5.7k up to 30p. Dusl ISO will be lower than varicam but not specified yet. Luc Bara talking on the On the go show at cinema5d.
