desperately need a bigger over the shoulder lens bag - suggestions?

that looks pretty good, could you let me know the exact model number of that one so I can check up on the dimensions?

Tamrac Super Pro series are awesome. Yes, they're expensive but they will last you an age and can hold SO MUCH. The joy is they don't look too big so you can also easily take them on flights as hand luggage (even if it does weigh 20kg, how will they know?!). I've used mine to pack all of my kit, plus laptop, an extra four lenses, portable drives and some of my clothes. Keep you eyes peeled on photography forums and ebay for them second hand, I got mine for less than 1/10th of the retail price in near new condition.

I have a Lowepro. Great design, You can strap it to your waist to leverage the weight. It opens in a way that you do not need to sit in a run and gun scenario. Check their site.

Edit- can't find my model but this one seems close to what you're looking for: http://products.lowepro.com/product/Stealth-Reporter-D650-AW,2049,20.htm

that looks really good! On paper it looks a tiny bit big, but in a video on the jessops site it looks a touch small, however this is one I can order to a local branch to check out so might just do that. The waist strap looks excellent

While I still think Tamrac tip over- I would agree the quality is awesome - the one I use I bought in 1990 - its still in use

i managed to get a good used price on a Lowepro Stealth Reporter 550 so will take a look at this when it arrives, if it's not right Im confident I can sell it for what I paid for it.

Did want more of a messenger style bag, but can't find any able to accomodate 2 lenses deep (as obviously would then stick out too much for a messenger bag)

I think a Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 (or one size up) would be perfect for your needs. D550 or D650 is way too big, unless you decide to carry a laptop computer over your shoulder all the time during your shooting.

I bought my D300 in 2008 and I have been using it virtually every day everywhere for all sorts of purposes (including carrying heavy weights and even diapers;-). It used to carry a body with 24-105 lens attached, plus 70-200/f2.8L IS with hood revered, plus 1 580EX flash gun, plus a 3rd lens (or 2nd 580EX), plus all the accessories (cards, batteries, etc.) that may be needed anytime. If used just for lenses, it should have no problem taking all these lense: 16-35/f2.8, 50/f1.2, 70-200/f2.8 IS, 100/f2.8 macro. As far as I know, 1 or 2 years ago the Stealth Reporter models were replaced with some messenger bag series. Their prices were raised by 30%+ in 2008, but now dropped quite low.

Althernatively, you may be able to find a Think Tank bag similar to D300. Think Tank bags are designed for "getting the job done" without unnecessary features such as extra padding. They are lightweight and pretty good. For carrying just lenses, they may be much more comfortable to carry a full day than most Lowepro counterparts.

thanks very much for that, I'll take a look at think tank bags and hope that the d550 i ordered isn't too big. I'll be carrying a bit more than you list (albeit not a laptop, I wish that pouch wasn't there but it only adds a couple of cm to the depth).

In case anyone reads this in future, I will be most likely carrying:

Canon 70-200 2.8
Canon 24-70
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 100mm 2.0
Canon 24mm 1.4
Sigma 12-24
GH1 body only with eos adapter on (spare body - forgot about this when mentioning my original needs)

I think you'll agree that the 550d won't be too big (hopefully won't be too small..)

will update when I receive.

I've just remembered I've ordered a crumpler 8 million dollar home bag too! Dodgy website but if it turns out to be genuine I will pick my favorite!

My Tamrac Evolution 6 converts form backpack to shoulder bag and does great with one body, up to five lenses(or items), a large flash and batteries, and other small accessories. It even has a clasp to hold a small tripod or monopod on the exterior.

If you haul all these lenses over your shoulder while walking around and taking shots with a camera.... Let me just say: it's "amazing" and you must be a very strong person 300+ pounds maybe..;-) BTW, D550/650 is not just bigger (should be big enough for all those 6 lenses + a small body), but also much heavier than its little brothers (the added weight is equivalent to carrying 1-2+ extra L lenses).

If you don't haul all the lenses on your shoulder, a duffel bag (which weighs nothing like a padded camera bag - just use lense pouches to separate & protect individual lenses) or a lightweight medium-sized backpack will serve the storage/carrying purpose much, much better. BTW, I actually used a sports duffel bag to haul several of my lenses + 2 external hard drives + microphones + plus all my "can't live without" stuff on to an air plane, as my carry-on bag. Heavy indeed, but I only needed to put on my shoulder for minutes, not hours.

Good luck to you!

it's not pleasant agreed but it's not too bad and I'm not very big. Admittedly I haven't done a full day with it yet but will next week. I'm going to try to stick the bag on the floor a lot more than I currently do for a bit of a rest!

it appears the crumpler 8 million dollar home is a Australia and US only model... who fancies shipping one to me? :)
